TRUMPF is seeking an analytical and proactive Internal Logistics Data & Process Improvement Intern to support warehouse optimization, inventory accuracy, material flow, and continuous improvement initiatives at our Farmington, CT facility.

This role will work directly with the Internal Logistics team to analyze logistics processes, develop reporting tools, improve SAP-related workflows, and identify opportunities to reduce waste and improve material availability. The intern will gain hands-on experience combining SAP, Power BI, data analysis, Lean principles, and logistics process improvement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze Internal Logistics processes to identify opportunities to improve material flow, inventory accuracy, productivity, and efficiency.
  • Support warehouse and production supply processes, including material movements, replenishment, Kanban, pull parts, and line-side delivery.
  • Use SAP to review inventory transactions, material movements, stock levels, and logistics-related data.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards for logistics KPIs, inventory accuracy, productivity, material availability, and process performance.
  • Analyze logistics data to identify trends, bottlenecks, recurring issues, and improvement opportunities.
  • Support cycle counting and inventory accuracy initiatives, including root-cause analysis of inventory discrepancies.
  • Assist with standardizing Internal Logistics processes through standard work, process documentation, and visual management.
  • Participate in Lean and continuous improvement projects, including 5S, waste reduction, process mapping, and workflow optimization.
  • Assist with time studies, process observations, data collection, and capacity analysis.
  • Support the development of warehouse layouts and material flow concepts using SolidWorks when required.
  • Work with Internal Logistics team members to improve warehouse organization, storage utilization, and material presentation.
  • Prepare project updates, presentations, reports, and recommendations for leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Supply Chain, IT, and other departments on logistics improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Manufacturing Engineering, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with SAP or another ERP system preferred.
  • Experience or coursework involving Power BI, Excel, or data analytics.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret data and translate findings into practical process improvements.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in both an office and manufacturing/warehouse environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a cross-functional team.
Preferred Skills
  • Knowledge of inventory management, material flow, Kanban, pull systems, and warehouse processes.
  • Experience with Power BI dashboard development and data visualization.

Internship Experience

This internship provides hands-on exposure to the analytical and process improvement side of Internal Logistics.
