Interns in this role typically assist with the operation, maintenance, and monitoring of the lock and dam, while learning about waterway management, engineering, and environmental protocols. This position provides hands-on experience in the field, often as part of a government agency or the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. What types of hands-on experience can interns expect during a Lock and Dam internship?

During a Lock and Dam internship, interns typically gain hands-on experience by assisting with daily operations such as monitoring water levels, helping with lockage procedures, and performing routine maintenance under supervision. Interns often work closely with experienced engineers and technicians, learning about hydraulic systems, safety protocols, and the importance of communication within a team environment. This role provides a unique opportunity to observe and participate in the coordination efforts that keep waterways safe and navigable, offering valuable exposure to both technical and operational aspects of civil infrastructure.
