Job description

Position Summary: This faculty member will have a joint appointment with Brenau and North Georgia Medical Center, with 18.75 hours per week at each site. For Brenau, this faculty member will serve as the Assistant Coordinator for the Brenau Doctoral Internship housed in Gainesville, GA.

NGMC: The Director of Psychotherapy Training provides essential leadership and oversight of the psychiatry residency’s psychotherapy curriculum, ensuring compliance with ACGME requirements, maintaining high-quality education, and supporting resident clinical competence in the three ACGME core psychotherapy modalities (CBT, psychodynamic, and supportive/humanistic). This role ensures adherence to ACGME psychotherapy training standards, enhances resident competence and preparedness for independent practice, supports program reputation, resident satisfaction, and faculty development, and provides continuity and leadership in core educational initiatives critical to residency success.

Minimum Qualifications:

● PhD/PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology or a related field

● Licensed as Psychologist in Georgia

● Three years of clinical practice, including in psychological assessments

● Two years of experience in providing clinical supervision

Responsibilities:

Assistant Doctoral Internship Coordinator & Assistant Director Ivester House Clinic – Assist the Doctoral Internship Coordinator/Ivester House Clinic Director in running the internship and the clinic, including in the following areas:

● Planning and organizing a doctoral psychology internship collaborative run out of the Ivester House location of the Brenau Center for Counseling and Psychological Services.

● Assist in recruitment and selection process for interns

● Maintain awareness of internship requirements and communicate the requirements to all agencies in the collaborative; ensure compliance with training and APA/APPIC accreditation standards.

● Maintain communication and contracts/MOUs with other collaborative and partner agencies, contribute to the evaluation of progress of interns.

● Plan and manage intern rotations across sites and verify qualifications of site supervisors; ensure that interns receive a high-quality and comprehensive training experience.

● Provide clinical supervision to interns for their clinical work at the Ivester House and partner sites.

● Plan and manage required didactic training, including scheduling didactic trainers from collaborative and partner sites.

● Maintain doctoral internship collaborative program records

● Manage program evaluation of internship collaborative

● Provide clinical teaching through individual supervision of graduate students placed at the BCCPS Norcross who are seeing therapy and assessment clients.

● Assists in the grading process for students in Practicum and Internship placements by providing written evaluation of each student’s clinical performance. These evaluations are completed at the conclusion of each semester.

● Assist in hiring clinic staff including clinic coordinators

● Coordinate staff development activities for staff assigned to the clinic.

● Orient and train graduate student counselors and clinic coordinators.

● Supervise intake assessment services and case assignment.

● Develop and monitor systems and resources required to support therapy services including scheduling of clients and maintaining library of assessments and therapy materials

● Develop and maintain routine policies and procedures.

● Serve as on-call clinical supervisor as needed.

● Identify community needs for psychology services.

● Provide limited clinical services at the Ivester House clinic

NGMC duties:

Curriculum Oversight & Development (7.75 hours per week): Oversees Wednesday didactics and attends all Wednesdays to help with coordination across speakers. Also oversees the following recurring yearly seminars (6 lectures each): introductory psychodynamic therapy (PDT101/201), advanced psychodynamic therapy (PDT301/401), CBT101/201, DBT301/401, and ACT301/401. Additionally, leads a monthly ethics/professionalism series (ETH101-401), a monthly psychotherapy case conference series (PCC101-401), and oversees monthly simulation afternoons (SIM101-401). Also assists in identifying external speakers for the monthly department grand rounds series, and gives at least two faculty development lectures each year.

Clinical Supervision & Mentorship (6 hours per week): Screens all resident clinic psychotherapy referrals and triages cases to ensure full resident caseloads. Supervises PGY3&4 psychotherapy clinics and notes, oversees three weekly supervision groups (including leading one on CBT themselves), and coordinates finding weekly individual resident supervisors. Additionally, manages the residency’s four monthly process/T/Balint groups for all classes (including leading one themselves) and the formal mentorship program which pairs all residents with faculty and senior resident mentors. Directly mentors at least two residents.

Program Administration & Compliance (2.5 hours per week): Participates in weekly leadership meetings (Wednesdays from 11-12 PM), serves on the Clinical Competency Committee and Program Evaluation Committee, advises on all quality improvement initiatives within the residency, and represents faculty on the Resident Committee on Community. Engages in ongoing scholarly activity and professional development to model and promote excellence in psychotherapy training.

Recruitment & Professional Representation (2.5 hours per week): Supports residency recruitment through application review, interviews, and recruitment fairs; attends national conferences to maintain expertise (including maintaining an active membership in AADPRT), represent the program, and implement best practices in psychotherapy education. Recruits and coordinates adjunct faculty members involved in psychotherapy training.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervision of clinical work of Doctoral Psychology Interns as well as other graduate students providing services at the Ivester House at Brenau is required as well as supervisor of Psychiatry Residents at NGMC.

Work Hours: 37.5 hours per week. Monday – Friday with some day and some evening hours to cover IH evening hours. Occasional weekend recruitment activities. Hours may be adjusted to meet the needs of the department.
