Job description

Davis & Floyd is seeking a Water Resources Designer III to join our Greenville or Florence, SC team! The Water Resources Designer III is responsible for supporting engineering staff in the design development of complex civil projects and serving as an advanced technical resource within the CAD team. Working under the general direction of engineers, project managers, and discipline leads, this candidate will independently develop project drawings and construction documents, assist in evaluating project feasibility, coordinate CAD production efforts, and generate accurate and detailed engineering records. The CAD Technician III is expected to exercise considerable independent judgment, perform advanced drafting and design support functions, and assist with mentoring junior technicians.
Responsibilities
  • Utilize AutoCAD Civil 3D software to perform advanced design and drafting activities, including layouts, detail drawings, sketches, and diagrams
  • Lead drafting operations for the development of project plans and construction documents
  • Develop, coordinate, and review engineering drawings and plans for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project standards
  • Perform fieldwork, documentation, research, and drafting tasks related to engineering data as requested by clients or managers
  • Review rough sketches, drawings, calculations, and engineering data received from Engineers and provide technical drafting recommendations
  • Convert field survey data into topographic survey drawings and 3D models suitable for producing drawings and layout data
  • Create detailed construction drawings of proposed improvements such as roads, bridges, drainage systems, water and sewer facilities, planting plans, and land development projects
  • Prepare 2D and 3D construction layout data suitable for staking by field surveyors or use in GPS-controlled construction equipment
  • Maintain advanced proficiency in automated design programs and emerging CAD technologies
  • Implement and help enforce client-specific CAD standards and company drafting procedures
  • Coordinate drafting activities across projects and provide technical support to junior CAD staff
  • Prepare maps, conceptual plans, cross sections, and exhibits suitable for client presentations, reports, and regulatory submittals
  • Interact and collaborate with engineers, project managers, and clients to produce high-quality designs and drawings that meet project requirements and CAD standards
  • Perform quality control reviews of drawings and design files prior to project submittals
  • Assist in training and mentoring CAD Technicians and providing technical guidance
  • Perform regular software maintenance, upgrading, and troubleshooting
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of procedural, software, and hardware improvements impacting CAD production
  • Draft and coordinate designs according to project requirements with minimal supervision
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree in Technical Design with CAD coursework or equivalent combination of education and experience; or Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school
  • 6+ years of civil design/drafting experience
  • AutoCAD Certified preferred
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Autodesk Civil 3D and AutoCAD
  • Ability to understand, interpret, and implement highly complex oral and written instructions
  • Strong understanding of civil engineering design principles and drafting standards
  • Ability to review and coordinate the work of others for quality and consistency
  • Ability to professionally interact with clients, consultants, and staff
  • Must be a self-starter with exceptional attention to detail
  • Ability to independently manage multiple project assignments and meet deadlines
  • Experience preparing construction plans for civil engineering projects

Preferred Qualifications
  • Design experience in water treatment and distribution systems, wastewater collection, conveyance systems, and treatment facilities, or a combination thereof
  • Strong knowledge of local, state, and federal design standards
  • Experience working in a consulting engineering environment
  • Experience mentoring or training junior CAD staff
  • Experience coordinating drafting efforts on multidisciplinary projects
