Job description

Individual contributor that works under limited supervision. Applies subject matter knowledge; requires capacity to understand specific needs or requirements to apply skills/knowledge. Project facilitator who guides cross-functional teams in executing the principles of the Agile Scrum and Kanban framework. Provides servant leadership to a team or teams and facilitates planning, team learning in the form of reviews and retrospectives, and adaptation of the process to ensure quality of team/solutions. Provides training and mentorship to new teams and junior Scrum Masters. Champions Agile principles and the framework to the organization. Ensures the tracking and reporting of daily activities. Responsible for removing impediments that prevent a team from completing the work it has negotiated for a given sprint. Works closely with the Product Owner(s) to ensure high velocity and high quality of delivery, while identifying and helping to resolve issues that emerge throughout the product development cycle.


What you will do:

  • Serves, leads, coaches and supports multiple simultaneous Agile teams on high-complexity initiatives consisting of internal, external, and business and technical resources in delivery of IT and business products and solutions.
  • Advocates and teaches Agile methodology and processes, ensuring that the team is always following the framework fostering an environment of continuous improvement/learning and driving substantial improvement at the team, portfolio and organization levels. Guides team members in achieving maturity in Agile principles with a track record of increasing velocity as team(s) mature.
  • Trains new and junior Scrum Masters. Provides mentorship to other Scrum Masters and Agile Teams in the organization. Leads the communities of practice for enrichment.
  • Provides mentorship and training to Product Owners in the organization.
  • Leads the communities of practice for enrichment with a proven track record of establishing strong team environments with high morale and team cohesion where the team members constructively challenge each other, have a sense of ownership, and advocate for the right long-term decision-making.
  • Organizes and facilitates ceremonies and agile practices such as sprint planning, daily standup, backlog refinement/grooming, sprint review, and sprint retrospective alongside the product owner, ensuring the team(s) adhere to the Agile values of courage, focus, commitment, respect and openness in delivering solutions.
  • Supports the Product Owner and Team through maintaining data in the appropriate Agile toolset to provide transparency creating visibility to ‘what' and ‘how' teams are performing through valuable team metrics.
  • Works with the teams to drive the definition and refinement of the program and team backlogs. Ensures scope, goals, milestones, budget, risk, status, change requests and critical issues are effectively communicated creating visibility to ‘what' and ‘how' teams are performing through valuable team metrics.
  • Identifies and removes technical and/or organizational challenges and impediments to optimize delivery. Resolves complex systemic impediments without support. Manages risks and issues and acts to ensure they do not recur.
  • Understands software skills such as business analysis, development, maintenance and software improvement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Scrum Master experience: 5+ years. - Required
  • Experience with an Agile management tool, such as Microsoft Team Foundation Server. - Required
  • Demonstrated experience forming and guiding teams to high performance. - Required
  • Demonstrated experience as team player influencing and negotiating at all levels of the organization. - Required
  • Demonstrated experience coaching Agile practices, stressing individuals and interactions over processes and tools. - Required
  • Demonstrated experience in business analysis, product/project management, or product development. - Required
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating with cross-functional teams during the entire lifecycle of product development. - Required
  • Proven expert understanding of multiple Agile frameworks. -
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse teams across the organization. -
  • Proven situational awareness of when to listen and when to be assertive. -
  • Proven track record for leading continuous improvement to help team clarify goals and actions to achieve them. -

  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication and presentation skills; ability to document procedures and activities in a manner that is understandable to others and prepared using a prescribed format, demonstrating use of the English language to include verbal and written format; comfortable presenting to leadership, business partners and engineering alike. -
  • Proven technical leadership of software landscapes ranging from Mainframe, Open Systems, Relational Database, Networking, Security with a high understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC). -
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and guidance related to your field(s) of expertise to one or more Agile teams with a proven ability to develop and implement a product strategy and make dynamic adjustments as landscapes shift. -
  • Demonstrated ability to define the long-term vision for one or more technical domains, and help leading the technical execution towards that vision. -
  • Proven ability to influence and prioritize between new features, architectural improvements and operational excellence to drive outcomes. -
  • Proven ability to convincingly communicate product vision, solutions and benefits to customers and stakeholders. Able to champion the needs of customers and stakeholders throughout the development process. -
  • Proven ability to lead feature definition, planning and implementation efforts with clarity and conviction. -
  • Proven ability to proactively identify problems that arise, outline options and recommend solutions. -
  • Proven ability to operate effectively and independently, even in areas of uncertainty and ambiguity. -
  • Proven skills in documentation and spreadsheet applications. -
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office. -
  • Certified Scrum Professional® - Scrum Master (CSP - SM) or Professional Scrum Master III (PSM III) Upon Hire - Required

Work Setting/Position Demands:

  • Works in an office setting and remains in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.
  • Requires the ability to verbally communicate and exchange accurate information to customers and associates on a regular basis.
  • Requires visual acuity to read and interpret a variety of correspondence, procedures, reports and forms via paper and electronic documents, visual inspection involving small defects; small parts, and/or operation of machinery (including inspection); using measurement devices continuously. Visual acuity is required to determine accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work assigned.
  • Requires the ability to prepare written correspondence, reports and forms using prescribed formats and conforming to rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style on a regular basis.
