Job Description:

We are looking for a Software Engineer to support the development, integration, and ongoing operations of enterprise applications within Corporate IT. This opportunity is open to both new graduates and early-career experienced professionals, with responsibilities scaled to experience level.

As a Software Engineer, you will contribute to the development, support, and ongoing enhancement of business-critical applications that support Sun Life's Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and Financial Crime technology platforms.

This role combines hands-on development with operational support responsibilities, with opportunities to contribute to cloud-based data integration, ETL/data pipelines, ETL job scheduling, and AML technology solutions in AWS environments.

What will you do?

  • Develop, test, maintain, and support enterprise software applications, data integration solutions, and ETL/data pipelines under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Assist in analyzing business and technical requirements and contribute to solution discussions.
  • Develop and maintain code, scripts, automation tools, and data integration components.
  • Assist in the development, testing, scheduling, and monitoring of ETL/data pipelines using tools such as Informatica IDMC/IICS or AWS Glue, as applicable.
  • Assist in scheduling, monitoring, and troubleshooting ETL/data integration jobs using technologies such as Informatica IDMC/IICS, AWS Glue, and related scheduling/orchestration tools to ensure timely and reliable processing of AML and Financial Crime data.
  • Support applications and data pipelines that enable AML monitoring, financial crime investigations, regulatory reporting, and data management processes.
  • Assist with data extraction, transformation, validation, reconciliation, and troubleshooting activities across relational databases and cloud data platforms.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, stand-ups, retrospectives).
  • Provide application support, including incident resolution and troubleshooting.
  • Support system or project documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and business stakeholders.
  • Ensure adherence to Sun Life standards for security, compliance, and change management.
  • Identify opportunities for automation, optimization, and continuous improvement.
  • Participate in rotational on-call support as required for production systems

What do you need to succeed?

  • Foundational knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Java, Python, C#, or similar).
  • Basic understanding of SQL, relational databases, and data manipulation concepts.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS cloud services through internships, co-op placements, academic projects, or professional experience.
  • Experience working in AWS environments, including AWS Glue, S3, Lambda, CloudWatch, IAM, or related cloud data and integration services.
  • Exposure to ETL/data integration concepts and experience with AWS Glue, Informatica IDMC/IICS, or similar data integration platforms through work, internship, co-op, or academic projects.
  • Exposure to batch processing, job scheduling, workflow orchestration, or ETL monitoring concepts through coursework, internships, co-op placements, or projects.
  • Exposure to data extraction, transformation, loading, validation, reconciliation, and error handling concepts.
  • Exposure to scripting, automation, or API development through coursework or projects (e.g. PowerShell, shell scripting).
  • Familiarity with software development lifecycle concepts (Agile, DevOps).
  • Experience working with APIs, integrations, and enterprise systems is an asset.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms, or modern DevOps practices is an asset
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking.
  • Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and tools.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
  • Attention to detail when validating data, documenting issues, and supporting production systems

  • Interest in Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Financial Crime, compliance technology, regulatory reporting, or risk management solutions.
  • Exposure through coursework, internships, or projects to financial services, compliance, risk, analytics, or regulatory technology domains.
  • Academic, internship, or project experience with Informatica IDMC/IICS, AWS Glue, or similar ETL/data integration technologies.
  • Exposure to scheduling and orchestration tools such as Informatica Taskflows, AWS Glue Workflows, and AutoSys.
  • Experience building or supporting data pipelines, batch jobs, file processing, data quality checks, or data reconciliation processes.
  • Familiarity with data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, or reporting/analytics platforms such as Power BI.
  • Experience with automation frameworks or workflow tools.

The Base Pay range is for the primary location for which the job is posted. It may vary depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other factors. In addition to Base Pay, eligible Sun Life employees participate in various incentive plans, payment under which is discretionary and subject to individual and company performance. Certain sales focused roles have sales incentive plans based on individual or group sales results.
