Job description

Join Axon and be a Force for Good.
At Axon, we're on a mission to Protect Life. We're explorers, pursuing society's most critical safety and justice issues with our ecosystem of devices and cloud software. Like our products, we work better together. We connect with candor and care, seeking out diverse perspectives from our customers, communities and each other.
Life at Axon is fast-paced, challenging and meaningful. Here, you'll take ownership and drive real change. Constantly grow as you work hard for a mission that matters at a company where you matter.
Your Impact
On the Real Time Operations (RTO) Live Streaming team we are building the next generation of live streaming for mission-critical situations. Through Fusus we unify live video, sensor data, and alerts into a single operational view to empower agencies to make faster, better decisions. We design, deploy and manage hardware + software used by first responders and security professionals worldwide.
As a Senior Software Engineer you will: Build the native foundation for edge video and IoT intelligence across Axon Body cameras and FususCOREs. Own high-performance pipelines from sensor to inference. Shape how SDKs are consumed across mobile and backend surfaces. Define standards for ABI stability and long-term compatibility. Influence architecture decisions at the boundary of hardware, media, and AI.
What You'll Do
  • Location: This role is based out of our Seattle office and follows a hybrid schedule. We rely on in-person collaboration and ask that team members work onsite Tuesdays through Fridays, with the flexibility to work remotely on Mondays, unless there is an approved workplace accommodation. We believe that connection fuels innovation, and our in-office culture is designed to foster meaningful teamwork, mentorship, and shared success.
  • Reports to: Senior Software Engineering Manager
  • Define the native platform architecture for the next generation of Axon Fusus hardware: this is an opportunity to set the technical direction from vendor and SoC selection through production deployment.
  • Set the SDK strategy: define the ABI contracts, versioning guarantees, and FFI boundaries that will outlast any single product generation.
  • Design and ship cascade AI pipelines at the edge: chain detection, classification, and analytics models across NPU/GPU/VPU resources to deliver real-time intelligence within the power and thermal constraints of embedded hardware worn + deployed in the field.
What You Bring
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Proven track record of designing and building latency-critical systems that run on embedded and IoT devices.
  • Experience designing SDKs with stable ABIs, clear versioning strategies, and cross-language FFI design.
  • Familiarity with ARM SoCs (RK3588, Jetson, QCS series) beyond x86 embedded.
  • Sets a high technical bar for the team by writing well-tested, maintainable code and leading code and technical design reviews. Leads from the front setting AI coding standards for the team.
  • Experience with hardware-accelerated video pipelines a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with inference at the edge using NPUs or GPUs - TensorRT, CUDA, ONNX Runtime, or similar a plus.

Benefits that Benefit You
  • Competitive salary and 401k with employer match
  • Discretionary paid time off
  • Paid parental leave for all
  • Medical, Dental, Vision plans
  • Fitness Programs
  • Emotional & Mental Wellness support
  • Learning & Development programs
  • Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)
  • And yes, we have snacks in our offices

Benefits listed herein may vary depending on the nature of your employment and the location where you work.
