Job description

SUMMARY

The Robotics Engineer is a recognized robotics expert and thought leader, setting technical direction for robot integration across multiple programs. This role pioneers advanced applications, defines best practices, and represents the company in customer and industry forums.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time.

•       Defines robotics standards, strategies, and best practices across the company.

•       Tackles unprecedented robotics challenges with innovative solutions.

•       Mentors technicians and engineers at all levels.

•       Represents company expertise in customer meetings and industry forums.

•       Aligns robotics solutions with business growth and strategic direction.

•       Acts as the highest-level technical escalation point for the service department, resolving critical field failures and leading the development of remote support strategies, diagnostic procedures, and knowledge base content; collaborates with service leadership to identify recurring issues and drive engineering improvements across the installed base.

•       Deep expertise in three or more specialized robot application areas, including vision-guided robotics, palletizing, dispensing/adhesive application, painting/coating, and arc/spot welding.

•       Serves as the company''s internal subject matter expert for at least one specialized application domain; defines programming standards, tooling guidelines, and best practices for that domain.

•       Leads vision system architecture decisions, camera selection, calibration strategies, lighting design, and resolves complex vision integration challenges across programs.

•       Advanced proficiency in robot reach studies, timing studies, and full cell simulation using ABB RobotStudio and Fanuc ROBOGUIDE; capable of training others in simulation best practices.

•       Uses offline simulation proactively during the quoting and design phases to validate feasibility, optimize cycle times, and reduce project risk before hardware is built.

•       Evaluates emerging application technologies (collaborative robots, force-torque sensing, AI-assisted vision) and provides recommendations for adoption into the company''s capability portfolio.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

•       Bachelor''s degree in welding engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, or a related engineering discipline; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

•       0-2 years of experience in welding engineering, welding process development, or a related field; relevant internship, co-op, or capstone project experience is a plus.

•       Foundational knowledge of welding processes (GMAW/MIG, GTAW/TIG, Laser) and welding metallurgy, gained through coursework, internships, or hands-on project work.

•       Exposure to developing or qualifying welding procedures, or troubleshooting weld process issues, through academic, internship, or project-based experience.

•       Coursework or exposure to robotic welding systems and offline programming software is a plus.

•       AWS certifications (e.g., CWEng, CWI) are not required but a plus; willingness to pursue certification over time is expected.

•       Strong desire to learn from and collaborate with senior welding engineering staff and robotic welding technicians.
