Internship Interior Design Rendering information

What is an internship in interior design rendering?

An Internship in Interior Design Rendering is a temporary position where students or recent graduates gain practical experience in creating visual representations of interior spaces. Interns typically use specialized software to produce 2D and 3D renderings under the supervision of professional designers. This role helps interns develop technical skills, understand industry standards, and build a professional portfolio. The internship provides valuable exposure to real-world projects and can be a stepping stone to a full-time career in interior design or architectural visualization.

What do interior design rendering interns do?

As an intern specializing in interior design rendering, you will typically assist design teams by creating 3D visualizations, digital models, and presentation boards for client proposals and ongoing projects. Your daily tasks may include updating material libraries, rendering design concepts using software like SketchUp, Revit, or 3ds Max, and collaborating with designers to refine visuals based on client feedback. This hands-on experience will help you understand the design process, improve your technical skills, and build a professional portfolio. Additionally, you may have opportunities to participate in team meetings and contribute creative ideas, further preparing you for a career in interior design.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as an interior design rendering intern?

To thrive as an Interior Design Rendering Intern, you typically need a foundational understanding of interior design principles and proficiency in visual communication, often supported by coursework or a degree in interior design or a related field. Familiarity with design software such as AutoCAD, SketchUp, Revit, and rendering tools like V-Ray or Lumion is essential. Strong attention to detail, creativity, and effective teamwork and communication skills help interns excel in collaborative studio environments. These abilities ensure accurate, compelling visual presentations that support project development and client engagement.

What is the difference between Internship Interior Design Rendering vs Interior Design Assistant?

AspectInternship Interior Design RenderingInterior Design Assistant
CredentialsBasic knowledge of design software, student or entry-levelSimilar, often requires some experience or education in interior design
Work EnvironmentInternship setting, often in design firms or studiosOffice environment, supporting senior designers
Job FocusCreating visual renderings, learning design softwareAssisting with project coordination, client communication, and design tasks

Internship Interior Design Rendering primarily involves creating visual representations of interior spaces, focusing on developing rendering skills. An Interior Design Assistant supports overall project tasks, including client communication and project coordination. While both roles require some design knowledge, internships are more focused on skill development in rendering software, whereas assistants have broader responsibilities in supporting design projects.

Are there internships for interior design rendering?

Internships for interior design rendering are available at architecture firms, design studios, and companies specializing in 3D visualization. These internships typically require skills in rendering software such as SketchUp, 3ds Max, or Revit, and provide hands-on experience in creating realistic interior visualizations for clients and projects.

Is an internship in interior design rendering worth it?

An internship in interior design rendering provides hands-on experience with visualization tools like 3D modeling software and enhances a portfolio, which can improve job prospects in the field. It also offers networking opportunities and industry insights, making it a valuable step for aspiring interior designers. However, the value depends on the quality of the internship and individual career goals.

Job description

FSB, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design, is offering a hands-on Summer Internship for Interior Design students who want to turn creative ideas into spaces people experience. As an intern, you'll work alongside experienced interior designers and other design professionals while gaining experience in space planning, materials and finishes, furniture, design development, visualization, and construction documentation.

You'll contribute to projects across a variety of markets and building types while seeing how interior designers balance creativity, functionality, client goals, material performance, and the technical realities of the built environment.

This is more than a summer of shadowing. You'll have opportunities to contribute ideas, build your design and technical skills, gain professional project experience, and explore what a career in interior design within a multidisciplinary A/E firm can look like.

Design & Technical Learning

  • Assist with interior design, space planning, modeling, visualization, and documentation using Revit and other design tools
  • Support finish, furniture, fixture, material, color, and product selections
  • Assist with development of floor plans, elevations, details, finish plans, schedules, renderings, and presentation materials
  • Contribute to programming, material research, product specifications, and design development
  • Learn how building codes, accessibility requirements, life safety considerations, and design standards influence interior environments
  • Gain exposure to FF&E and the interior design process from concept and documentation through installation

Team Collaboration

  • Work alongside experienced interior designers, architects, and other design professionals on active projects
  • Participate in coordination with architecture, mechanical, electrical, structural, and fire protection teams
  • See how interior design concepts evolve through client input, BIM coordination, technical problem solving, and multidisciplinary collaboration
  • Gain exposure to project meetings, client communication, and the day-to-day processes behind successful project delivery

The FSB Internship Experience

Our internship program is intentionally designed to help you make the transition from student to emerging professional. Along with your project work, you'll have a summer full of opportunities to learn, connect, explore your career interests, and become part of FSB.

During the summer, you'll:

  • Kick off your experience with FSB 101 and an introduction to our firm, culture, people, projects, and career opportunities
  • Connect with an FSB team member as a resource for questions, navigating the firm, and making connections throughout the summer
  • Participate in professional development programming, including leadership and project focused panels, Lunch & Learns, design activities, and other learning opportunities
  • Meet leaders and professionals from across FSB and learn about different career paths within the A/E industry
  • Build relationships with fellow interns and employees through networking, community service, and intern events
  • Develop your communication and presentation skills and wrap up the summer by sharing your experience, project contributions, and lessons learned through a final intern presentation

Required Qualifications

  • Actively pursuing a bachelor's degree in interior design or a related accredited program
  • Able to work on site in Oklahoma City for the duration of the summer internship, approximately 40 hours per week
  • Basic familiarity with Revit and interior design, rendering, or visualization software preferred
  • Strong communication, creativity, organization, problem solving, and collaboration skills
  • Curiosity, initiative, and a willingness to ask questions, contribute ideas, take on new challenges, and learn from experienced professionals
