Position Summary
The Industrial Designer is responsible for creating innovative, functional, and aesthetically appealing consumer products from concept through production. This role collaborates with Product Development, Engineering, Marketing, Packaging, Quality Assurance, and overseas manufacturing partners to develop products that align with Nuby's brand standards, consumer needs, and industry safety requirements.
The ideal candidate has experience designing consumer products, a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, and the ability to transform ideas into production-ready products.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop innovative product concepts for infant, toddler, and parenting products.
  • Research consumer trends, competitive products, and emerging materials and technologies.
  • Create concept sketches, digital renderings, CAD models, and product presentations.
  • Design products that balance functionality, ergonomics, safety, durability, and visual appeal.
  • Prepare detailed design specifications and documentation for manufacturing.
  • Work closely with Engineering to ensure designs are manufacturable and cost-effective.
  • Collaborate with Marketing and Packaging teams to develop cohesive product branding.
  • Review prototypes and production samples, recommending design improvements as needed.
  • Participate in product testing and validation to ensure compliance with company quality standards.
  • Communicate with overseas manufacturers regarding tooling, production, and design modifications.
  • Ensure products comply with applicable ASTM, CPSIA, FDA (where applicable), and international safety standards.
  • Manage multiple product development projects while meeting established deadlines.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives through design innovation and problem-solving.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of industrial or consumer product design experience preferred.
  • Experience with plastic injection molding, silicone products, and consumer product manufacturing is strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks, Rhino, Fusion 360, or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Strong sketching, visualization, and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of product development from concept through production.
  • Understanding of manufacturing methods, tooling, materials, and design for manufacturability (DFM).
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience designing juvenile products, consumer goods, or household products.
  • Familiarity with 3D printing and rapid prototyping.
  • Knowledge of human factors, ergonomics, and user-centered design.
  • Experience working with international manufacturing partners.
  • Understanding of sustainable materials and environmentally conscious product design.
  • Experience using AI-assisted design tools for concept generation, visualization, or workflow optimization.
