Job description

The Position The Bureau of Environmental Services is seeking interns for their Strategy & Integrated Planning group. Applications will be reviewed on a weekly basis. Note: These are casual Community Service Aide (CSA II) positions with a maximum of 1,400 hours in a calendar year. Strategy & Integrated Planning - Risk Assessment Division The Systems Analysis and Modeling Support section of the Risk Assessment Division performs engineering/modeling analysis to identify system deficiencies and provide optimal solutions to improve City's Combined, Sanitary Sewer and Stormwater systems.

The Strategy & Integrated Planning - Risk Assessment Division Intern, with guidance and under supervision, will: Provide technical support for the Risk Assessment/Modeling teams. Assist modelers in developing and refining data for various numerical models, including data collection and modification, field investigation, research, and QA/QC. Construct data tables and maps for modeling projects.

Conduct flow monitoring data assessment and organization. Query data from existing Bureau and City databases and the GIS systems to support analysis. Manipulate data in various forms for consolidation into the modeling data management system.

Provide data analysis support for BES Resilience programs. More information about this position. Strategy & Integrated Planning - Planning Division The Planning Division leads planning efforts to find solutions to problems that BES needs to solve, and coordinates with planning work in other bureaus.

The Planning Division includes the BES Resilience Program which works across multiple teams in the bureau and city to increase resilience to climate change and seismic risks. The Strategy & Integrated Planning - Planning Division Intern, with guidance and under supervision, will: Research, analyze, and interpret information (data, mapping, documents). Organize, standardize, and compile information (data, files, documents).

Interpret new tools or protocols and how they apply to BES work. Draft summaries and assessments of plan areas and/or community characteristics including vulnerability. Create simple maps and graphics, take notes at meetings, support creation of documents.
