Job description

Position Overview

The Industrial Engineer I is the entry point to the IE career path at Baldor. You work with senior engineers to observe operations, collect data, and support improvement efforts across the food distribution network. Success in this role means learning quickly, executing accurately, and knowing when to ask for help. The focus is on clean data, clear documentation, and building the judgment needed for future independent work.

Key Responsibilities:

Process Observation & Analysis

Conduct time studies, labor observations, and throughput counts on pick, pack, and receiving operations.

Document current-state workflows using process maps, swim lane diagrams, and structured observation notes.

Identify basic inefficiencies with supporting data and escalate them to senior engineers.

Data Collection & Reporting

Collect, clean, and organize operational data from ERP, WMS and manual logs to identify basic patterns.

Prepare weekly and ad-hoc performance reports with tables, charts, and trend summaries.

Monitor KPI dashboards and flag performance gaps against established baselines.

Documentation & SOPs

Draft and maintain standard operating procedures and work instructions for assigned areas.

Keep documentation accurate, version-controlled, and accessible to operations teams.

Support audits of existing SOPs to confirm alignment with current processes.

Project Support

Support senior engineers and project managers with data gathering, scheduling, note-taking, and follow-up actions.

Track action items and project status in designated tools, and flag overdue items.

Participate in cross-functional working sessions with operations, IT, facilities, supply chain, and merchandising.

Learning & Development

Learn Lean fundamentals and ERP/WMS basics.

Apply feedback consistently to improve deliverables.

Build foundational knowledge of conveyor systems and automation impacts on throughput.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Supply Chain, or related field.

Experience:2-4 years in industrial engineering, operations, or a distribution/warehouse environment. Internships and academic projects are considered.

Core Skills:

Data/BI: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, formulas, charting).

Layout/Design: Familiarity with basic process mapping tools (Visio or equivalent).

Communication: Clear written and verbal communication; able to present findings cleanly without over-explanation.

Mindset: Strong data discipline, attention to detail, and a self-starter approach to problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Exposure to Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma concepts (coursework or certification)
