Duties & Responsibilities
• Maintain a personal, active relationship with Jesus Christ and be a strong Christian witness in all interactions with youth, staff, donors, volunteers, and the general public so as to uphold Black Mountain Home's mission of Glorifying God by caring for children, youth, and families .
• Commit to pray regularly for the youth, staff, and ministry.
• Attend staff meetings, which include participation in a time of Christian devotion and prayer, as assigned. Review minutes and sign off for missed meetings to stay aware of ministry updates.
• Maintain and look to develop/grow areas of responsibility.
• Sort, value, and price various items for the thrift store.
• Work with the Thrift Store Assistant Managers and Thrift Store/Café General Manager to train volunteers.
• Take and prepare orders in the café.
• May be charged with running the store or café for brief times.
• Help the Thrift Store/Café General Manager to ensure all Environmental Health and OSHA rules and regulations are followed at all times in the store and cafe.
• Problem solve as needed and complete other projects as requested.
Continuing Education/Training
• Complete required training hours as detailed below:
- Twelve (12) hours per training year if you do not provide direct care coverage.
- Twenty-four (24) hours per training year if you provide direct care coverage.
- All trainings that are marked as mandatory for your role no matter how many hours you have completed.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Attend weekly staff meetings, which include participation in a time of Christian devotion and prayer, as assigned. Review minutes and sign-off for missed meetings to stay aware of ministry updates.
  • Maintain and look to develop/grow areas of responsibility
  • Provide quality donor relations and customer service in all interactions with donors and customers.
  • Have the ability to share a basic understanding of Black Mountain Home programs and operations with donors and customers.
  • Support the daily operations of the café by:
  1. Taking food and beverage orders.
  2. Preparing and serving a variety of food and drinks (including coffee drinks).
  3. Maintaining all inventory and displays with fullness and visual detail.
  4. Cleaning the facility.
  5. Maintaining a clean work area.
  6. Maintaining exterior seating and grounds.
  • Support the daily operations of the thrift store by:
  1. Sorting, valuing, and pricing merchandise for resale.
  2. Operating the thrift store point-of-sale system.
  3. Scheduling donations pick-ups.
  4. Working with the Thrift Store Manager and Thrift Store/Café General Manager to train volunteers.
  5. Maintaining cleanliness of work area, vehicles, and grounds.
  6. Assisting with unloading donor vehicles.
  7. Assisting with loading furniture and other items in customer vehicles.
  • Provide leadership to Interns and Student Interns both by example and as encouraged/directed by the Café Manager, Thrift Store Manager, and Thrift Store and Café General Manager.
  • Help the Café Manager, Thrift Store Manager, and Thrift Store and Café General Manager to ensure all Environmental Health and OSHA rules and regulations are followed at all times in the café and store.
  • Problem solve as needed and complete other projects as requested.
  • Work a flexible schedule of no more than 30 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications
• Must be able to work Saturdays.
• Must be able to lift or assist in lifting and moving a variety of items, including items that may weigh more than 50 pounds. Various tools and machines are in place to assist with this.
• Must maintain an active driver's license and be able to competently operate what may be a large vehicle for donation pick-ups.
• Some retail and/or food service experience preferred.
