General Description/Primary Purpose:
The 1919 Hotel, a 14-room boutique hotel affiliated with Murray State College's hospitality program, is seeking an experienced part time Operations Manager to serve as second-in-command to the General Manager. This is a unique opportunity within a teaching-hotel environment, where you'll help train, mentor, and supervise student staff learning the hospitality trade across front desk, housekeeping, breakfast service, and bar/F&B operations.
Classification: Part-time Staff, Non-Exempt
Appointment: 12-month
Description of Job Functions:
  1. Serve as the on-site leadership presence during evenings and on the GM's scheduled days
  2. off, including weekends, ensuring the property always has a manager on duty
  3. Oversee daily operations across front desk, housekeeping, and food & beverage, ensuring
  4. SOPs are followed consistently
  5. Train, coach, and evaluate student employees, reinforcing customer service standards and
  6. hands-on skill-building
  7. Handle guest concerns, service recovery, and on-the-spot decision-making in the GM's
  8. absence, including approving comps/refunds within policy limits
  9. Monitor staffing coverage and step in to fill gaps across departments as needed
  10. Support scheduling, shift changeovers, and communication between departments
  11. (breakfast service, evening bar service, housekeeping turnover)
  12. Assist with maintenance issue tracking and escalate urgent items appropriately
  13. Uphold property standards for cleanliness, safety, and guest experience
  14. Other duties as assigned.
  15. Complete all training assigned by the Human Resources Department.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Individuals must possess these kinds of knowledge, skills, and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that they can perform the job's essential functions, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

Hours:
Part-time hours will not exceed 29 hours per week. Hours may include the evenings and weekends.
Qualification Standards:
  1. Minimum Educational Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required
  2. Preferred Experience: Previous supervisory or management experience in hotels, restaurants, or hospitality.
  3. Professionalism: The Murray State College staff members are expected to show professional competence, integrity, and enthusiasm in performing all responsibilities.
  4. Image: Murray State College employees are expected to maintain a neat, well-groomed, professional image while performing their responsibilities.
  5. Background Check: The successful candidate must give permission to have a formal background check conducted and employment is contingent upon the results of the national criminal and sex offender background check.
