Job description

Teachers at the Hollister Dual Language Academy (HDLA) teach in a 50:50 English-Spanish dual immersion setting. BCLAD Teachers are literate and fluent in Spanish, especially in the academic Spanish required for these intermediate grades, because teaching Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Science in Spanish is required. All teachers are trained in dual immersion philosophy and continue to acquire training after hire. Middle school teachers teach the same group of students in the Dual Immersion program in English and Spanish Language Arts for two periods per day per cohort, teaching either English Language Arts or a Spanish elective in the remaining periods.
Teaching at HDLA is a team situation, requiring extensive planning with other team members. Middle School teachers teach the same students in either English or Spanish in different periods. Instruction in Spanish grammar, spelling, pronunciation, vocabulary and composition; guiding students in conversational Spanish; and teaching students about Spanish language literature, culture and history are all components of this program. Working with parent volunteers, virtually on a daily basis, in both languages is also an essential element of this position.
