SVA is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Assurance team in our Brookfield, WI location. This is the opportunity you have been looking for! 50% - 75% Client Work

  • Work with in-charge to complete assigned audits, reviews, compilations, and/or agreed-upon procedures engagement for nonprofit organizations. As challenging/unique situations occur, propose alternative options to in-charge, discuss and agree on course of action.
  • Act as in-charge for assigned engagements including client interaction and budget preparation.
  • Prepare financial statements.
  • Prepare moderate to difficult income tax and informational returns, including organizing a file of supporting documentation.
  • Perform tax, audit, or other research to gain expertise in service line.
  • Manage assigned administrative and other client related tasks.
  • Successfully and appropriately participate in internal and external meetings.
  • Maintain confidentiality with client information in accordance with related laws and regulations and adhere to all SVA policies and procedures.
  • Ensure all duties are performed efficiently, and to a satisfactory level, typically requiring 55 hours/week during busy season (including weekends), and 40-45 hours/week during non-busy season.
  • All other duties as assigned.

10% - 35% Bookkeeping

  • Assist clients with bookkeeping (monthly, quarterly, and annually).
  • Post adjustments to working trial balance.
  • Record transactions in journals, classify postings, total and cross-total entries for a period.
  • Draft financial reports including any required footnote disclosures.
  • Create and maintain property and equipment and calculate depreciation and amortization.
  • Prepare payroll tax, sales tax and other local tax returns.
  • Set up books of accounts for new businesses.

10% Professional and Personal Development

  • Work with mentor and/or senior staff to develop and execute career path.
  • Utilize internal and external learning opportunities.
  • Participate in projects as identified.
  • Represent SVA in the community and identify external organization(s) of interest.
  • Prepare for and take the CPA examination or EA exam, if appropriate.
  • Act as a buddy for interns or new staff accountants.
  • Develop supervisory skills, interests, and abilities.

5% Supervision

  • Train and develop interns, including providing regular engagement feedback.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Accounting or related field required.

Experience: ย 1 to 3 years of experience as a staff accountant in a public accounting firm or equivalent work experience required.

Professional Certification: ย Pursuing CPA Examination preferred.ย  If appropriate, pursuing the EA Examination required.

Specialized knowledge: All essential functions, skills, abilities, and behaviors of a Staff Accountant with minimal supervision.ย
