Apex Bank is seeking a qualified candidate for a Staff Accountant to join our team in Knoxville, Tennessee. As a premier community bank with branches statewide, we are looking for a dedicated professional to support our Finance Team and to grow their career with us.


Job Description

As a Staff Accountant you will support the day-to-day financial operations of the bank. You will assist in maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations. Other specific duties are as follows but are not limited to.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

·         General Ledger Management: Assist with maintaining and updating the general ledger by recording daily financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and ensuring accuracy in entries.

·         Bank Reconciliations: Perform daily and monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, investigating and resolving discrepancies promptly.

·         Accounts Payable & Receivable: Assist in processing invoices and payments, ensuring accuracy in the posting of accounts payable and receivable transactions.

·         Financial Reporting: Prepare and assist in the creation of financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for internal review and regulatory purposes.

·         Regulatory Compliance: Help ensure that all accounting activities are compliant with banking regulations and internal policies.

·         Loan Portfolio Accounting: Support the accounting team in tracking and maintaining records of the bank’s loan portfolio, including the reconciliation of loan balances.

·         Audit Assistance: Provide support during internal and external audits by preparing necessary documentation and responding to audit requests.

·         Documentation & Filing: Maintain organized and detailed records of all financial transactions and ensure proper filing for easy retrieval.

·         Team Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, including lending, operations, and compliance, to gather information and provide accounting support where necessary.

Required Job Skills and Experience:

·         Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent coursework/experience.

·         Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage). Familiarity with banking systems and financial reporting tools is a plus.

·         Attention to Detail: Strong ability to maintain accuracy in a high-volume environment.

·         Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze financial data and identify trends or discrepancies.

·         Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly present information to team members and management.

·         Problem-Solving: Ability to think critically and resolve financial discrepancies

·         Internship/Work Experience: Previous experience or internship in a financial institution or accounting role is preferred but not required.
