Job description


As a Sr Advanced Software Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, integration, and validation of mission-critical embedded software systems in compliance with aerospace industry standards and safety requirements.
The role requires hands-on expertise in avionics systems, software engineering best practices, and regulatory frameworks to support complex aerospace applications. This role is specifically to become a part of the advanced engineering team that develops the next generation common avionics platform which will support future Honeywell cockpit solution.
You will work out of our Phoenix, AZ location on a Hybrid work schedule. NO relocation offered.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop and implement robust, high-quality software solutions for avionics systems using C/C++, ensuring high performance, reliability, and functionality.
  • Engineer mission-critical software applications within deterministic Hard Real-Time Operating System (RTOS) environments, ensuring compliance with stringent safety and reliability standards.
  • Integrate and test avionics subsystems across diverse aircraft platforms, ensuring interoperability and adherence to aerospace technologies.
  • Leverage Python for scripting, automation, and system-level integration tasks.
  • Utilize project lifecycle management tools including Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, and Bamboo for agile development, version control, documentation, and continuous integration/deployment.
  • Implement and validate avionics communication protocols such as ARINC 429, ARINC 653, CAN (Controller Area Network), RS-232, and switched network protocols.
  • Apply knowledge of aerospace certification standards, including DO-178B/C for software assurance and ARP4754 for system engineering processes, focusing on compliance, traceability, and validation.
  • Participate in software development activities, contributing to iterative planning, adaptive execution, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Conduct requirements engineering and traceability using tools like IBM Rational DOORS to ensure structured documentation and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide technical mentorship, promote knowledge sharing, and support professional development of team members.
  • Stay abreast of technological advancements and integrate new practices into the development process.

Qualifications
YOU MUST HAVE
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, mathematics.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in embedded software development for avionics or safety-critical systems.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with C++, and Python.
  • Proficient in tools such as Jira, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Confluence, and IBM Rational DOORS.

WE VALUE
  • Familiarity with DO-178B/C, ARP4754, and safety-critical software development processes.
  • Experience with RTOS environments and avionics communication protocols (ARINC 429/653, CAN, RS-232).
