This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health, Waccamaw Center for Mental Health, Conway Medical Center, Emergency Department, 300 Singleton Road, Conway, SC 29526
This position MAY be eligible for SCOMH Student Loan Repayment to cover some of the cost of your outstanding loan(s) balance associated with the completion of a healthcare degree that is relevant to the appliable position.
As the Mental Health Professional I, under general supervision provide mental health assessments and case management to behavioral health patients at Conway Medical Center Emergency Department. Provide consultation to the treating/admitting physician and links clients to services provide by WCMH, Shoreline Behavioral Health and Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in the Horry County area.
Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional I:
  • Provide assessments, emergency services and case management services to persons experiencing emotional disturbances in the local hospital setting Emergency Department or floor to include assessments, crisis intervention, patient and family education.
  • Will consult with the treating/admitting physician as to the disposition of the patient.
  • Act as a liaison with WCMH, Shoreline Behavioral Health and Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities in Horry County area while providing education and resources to patients.
  • Participate in agency staffing's.
  • Discharge planning and coordination of follow-up care with WCMH and /or other providers is required.
  • Maintain documentation of charts and other records in accordance with State, Federal, Local, OMH, WCMH, Quality Assurance, Corporate Compliance and CARF Standards.

Minimum and Additional Requirements
  • A master's degree in guidance, social sciences or counseling is required.
Additional requirements:
  • Be able to meet OMH credentialing requirements which include specific graduate coursework including Psychopathology/Psychopathology Diagnostics/Clinical Assessment - Practice with Family Therapy (DSM) and Medical Ethics.
  • Must be able to show evidence of clinical experience proving direct patient care. This experience maybe documented as a practicum, internship or post-graduate clinical experience.
  • 2 years' experience in a clinical counseling program is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the range and scope of services provided in a comprehensive mental health program serving chronical mental health adults and the unique treatment needs of this special population.
  • Integrate and coordinate services with those of other disciplines and in other community agencies.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; ability to see, hear at normal volumes, stand, walk, reach, pull, stoop, bend and climb at least (2) flights of stairs.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish, or another language, are a plus.
  • Be able to work with adults in a community mental health setting.

Additional Comments
Post hire, employees must:
  • Be able to provide 10-year DMV driving record
  • Ability to exercise discretion in interpreting and applying established objectives in crisis situations.
  • Participation in on-going Inservice training and other educations opportunities in order to maintain and//or acquire necessary skills to perform duties.
