They are designed to help interns apply academic knowledge to real-world problems and develop practical skills under the guidance of experienced professionals. What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an HCI intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as an HCI Intern, you need a foundational understanding of user-centered design, usability principles, and basic research methods, typically supported by coursework or a degree track in HCI, psychology, or a related field. Proficiency with design tools like Figma or Sketch, familiarity with prototyping software, and knowledge of usability testing platforms are commonly required. Strong communication, curiosity, and collaboration skills help interns effectively contribute to interdisciplinary teams and translate user insights into actionable design improvements.
