Job description

Camp Laurel, one of New England's premier overnight summer camps in Maine as a Dance Counselor and help create an energetic, encouraging, and inspiring environment for campers ages 7–15. We are seeking passionate dancers and choreographers with experience in multiple styles, especially hip hop, who love working with children and thrive in a collaborative team atmosphere.


Responsibilities

  • Teach daily dance classes for campers of varying ages and skill levels
  • Primarily instruct hip hop, with some classes in tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, and modern dance
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and confidence-building environment for all campers
  • Help choreograph and rehearse routines for two major camp dance shows performed for the entire camp community
  • Encourage creativity, self-expression, teamwork, and personal growth through dance
  • Supervise and mentor campers both in and outside of activity periods as part of the camp community
  • Assist with music selection, costume organization, staging, and overall show production support
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and enthusiastic studio environment
  • Serve as a positive role model and contribute to the camp’s supportive culture


Qualifications

  • Strong background in dance instruction and performance, especially hip hop
  • Experience in multiple dance disciplines including jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, and/or modern
  • Experience teaching or mentoring children preferred
  • High energy, flexibility, creativity, and strong communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced camp environment
  • Passion for helping children build confidence and develop new skills
