Position Title: Diabetes Educator, RD


Department: Genesis Health Group

Purpose: According to established and departmental policies and procedures and utilizing evidence-based nutrition practice, the clinical dietitian assesses the nutritional needs of patients and their readiness to make lifestyle changes necessary to maximize health outcomes related to the disease state. The clinical dietitian formulates and implements the nutrition care plan. The clinical dietitian, as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team, actively participates in improving organizational performance of the nutrition care function.

Report To: Manager

Supervisory Responsibility: No Supervision: The job does not require the provision of guidance or supervision to others. There is no formal responsibility for directing others.

Materials Responsibility: Limited: Work requires limited responsibility for material resources. Examples of resources could include supplies, equipment, inventories, small budgets, and other similar material assets. The employee has a limited amount of control over these resources. The cost of errors is also limited in terms of damage, waste or financial loss. Problems associated with material resources are not complex. The volume of resources may vary, but the level of difficulty in dealing with these resources is uncomplicated.

POSITION SPECIFICATION

Education: Bachelor's Degree

Field Of Study: Dietetics

Special Training: Basic Life Support

Licensure/Registration: Registered Dietician in IL upon hire. Must obtain IA license within 1 year. Must obtain CDCES Certification within 2 years of hire.

Experience: More than 2 years experience required.

Interpersonal Skills: Interaction is with a variety of people inside or outside the organization. Communications are of moderate difficulty and sensitivity. Contact with others may involve detailed & lengthy dialogues & exchanges of information. Requires a moderate amount of interpersonal skills. Interactions involve dealing with moderately complicated problem situations or stressful encounters.

Physical Demands: Low Intensity: Work requires a light or low amount of physical exertion. The job requirements for manual dexterity or physical manipulation are limited. The need for physical stamina and endurance is of minimal or low significance. The degree of physical strain produced on the job is somewhat taxing, but does not usually produce fatigue and require periods of rest. Freedom of movement exists, and the job does not confine the employee to a prescribed body posture. Body movement usually involves sitting and intermittent walking. The position exceeds these demands occasionally, 10-35% of the time.

Working Conditions: There is limited exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Some undesirable or unpleasant environmental characteristics may occur but the physical environment is generally safe and there is minimal health risk. No safety equipment or unusual precautions are required. The occasional exposure to these minor adverse conditions would be limited to 35% or less of the work day.
