Job description

About the Role

As Associate Network Engineer, you will assist in transitioning to a software-defined networking (SDN) strategy, emphasizing automation and integration with cloud-based and on-premises systems. You will support the design, development, and maintenance of Kohl’s network infrastructure, ensuring it is scalable, reliable and secure. 

What You’ll Do

  • Leverage software engineering practices and participate in code and design reviews

  • Support the implementation of SDN strategies, focusing on automation and utilizing tools like Ansible and GitLab

  • Provide support and assistance to senior engineers, learning through hands-on experience and mentorship

  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving network issues, contributing to the development and improvement of network-related processes and tools

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support network requirements, and actively participate in training and development opportunities to enhance technical skills

  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and industry trends, participating in network-related projects and initiatives to drive continuous improvement

  • Additional tasks may be assigned


 

What Skills You Have

Required

  • Basic understanding of networking concepts and protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, DNS/DHCP)

  • Familiarity with network design and implementation principles

  • Basic knowledge of network security (e.g., firewall configurations, VPNs), preferably with some exposure to Palo Alto Networks

  • Basic knowledge of network monitoring and troubleshooting tools (e.g., Wireshark, Nmap)

  • Familiarity with network virtualization technologies (e.g., Cisco ACI, SDWAN, VMWare NSX, Linux KVM)

  • Interest in cloud-based networking, particularly Google Cloud Platform (GCP)

  • Basic programming skills (e.g., Python, Bash)

  • Interest in automation tools (e.g., Ansible, GitLab)

  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills

  • Ability to work well in a team

  • Understanding of basic concepts of Application Load Balancing

Preferred

  • Internship or project experience in network engineering or related fields.

  • Certifications such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or similar

  • Familiarity with additional automation tools and frameworks

  • Interest in DevOps practices and integration with CI/CD pipelines

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
