GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT

Tree House is excited to announce the exciting opportunity of Golf Course Grounds Superintendent, who will oversee the successful operation of our 20-year-old, 9-hole golf course. The right candidate will thrive in a hospitality environment and be highly focused on providing superior playing conditions and a pristine landscape aesthetic for our guests. This position is full-time and will report into the General Manager of the Tewksbury property.

Key Responsibilities of the Superintendent:

  • Complete responsibility for the overall grounds and health of nine-hole golf course.
  • Leads and directs the maintenance of all property grounds for the Tewksbury location.
  • Frequently inspects the golf course, general grounds and related areas to evaluate how well management standards are being achieved and to effect improvements where necessary.
  • Ensures that the golf course is providing healthy and high-quality playing conditions for guests
  • Supervises all planting, fertilizing and chemical applications, and other care of turf, plants, shrubs and trees on the golf course and surrounding grounds.
  • Leads the maintenance and repair of golf course maintenance equipment and fleet.
  • Supervises all team members assigned to perform golf course and general grounds maintenance. Oversees the scheduling and routing of personnel and equipment to accomplish the work. 
  • Assists in the planning, organizing and direction of the maintenance and construction of putting greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and bunkers.
  • Follows sound purchasing procedures utilizing preferred vendors, when possible.
  • Reconciles and provides timely coding of all invoices, payroll and other required documents.
  • Participates in interviewing, hiring, onboarding and training of department staff, who will directly report into the Superintendent. Develops ongoing training programs.
  • Monitors business volume forecast and plans accordingly in areas of manpower, productivity, costs and other expenses.
  • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.
  • Keeps accurate and complete records on payroll, inventory, weather data, maintenance procedures, pesticide applications, etc.
  • Communicates regularly with other members of the leadership group to discuss activities, goals, plans and customer input.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years related experience with general golf course maintenance, working as a Superintendent is preferred.
  • Current Massachusetts Pesticide License or the ability to obtain one upon hire.
  • Must have knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures in Golf Course Maintenance/Turf Maintenance
  • Knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices.
  • Knowledge of the use of turf and landscaping equipment including tractors, mowers, aerifier, electric motors, etc.
  • A high degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in terms of problem solving and decision making.
  • Proficiency in computer use, knowledge of Microsoft Office and other applications.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations (including, but not limited to, employment, safety and environmental standards, laws, and regulations).

The starting base salary range for this position is $120,000-145,000 annually. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors such as job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Base salary is only one component of the total compensation package, as this role is eligible for participation in the company growth bonus program and a robust benefit package.
