General Description JOIN OUR TEAM AS AN INTERN Thank you for your interest in becoming an intern with the Pasco County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) - Department of Utilities Operations & Maintenance and giving back to your community. In Pasco County, we strive to provide excellent public services that meet the needs of our citizens and enhance the quality of life for our residents and visitors. This position offers interns an opportunity to get to know more about the Pasco County BOCC Government and the Department of Utilities Operations & Maintenance.

Essential Job Functions GIS Interns for the Pasco County BOCC Government - Department of Utilities Operations & Maintenance will embark on an internship that will provide students the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills gained from the classroom in a hands-on, professional environment.

They will assist in researching and conducting special projects as assigned. Responsibilities will focus on importation & QA/QC of utility system assets, attributes, and their related data. Assigned duties will also include research and documentation to produce data for input or reports, assisting field collection and verification of data, and performance of other duties as assigned.

Interns will work under the direct supervision of the Utilities Mapping & GIS Supervisor, who will train and supervise the intern on how to efficiently utilize ArcGIS Pro and its extensions. The internship will mutually benefit the Pasco County BOCC and provide students the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills gained. Interns will be expected to work 30-38 hours a week, depending on course load and departmental needs.

Ability to lift/carry up to 80 pounds and/or maneuver heavy objects such as sewer manhole covers. Performs other related duties as required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of ArcMap, ArcGIS Pro, Esri web-based applications, and Esri mobile applications.

Knowledge of editing within ArcGIS Pro. Knowledge of MS Office applications. Ability to analyze assigned problems, gather and organize data, and arrive at valid conclusions.

Ability to work well with others and possess strong communication/customer service skills. Ability to use hand tools such as shovel, prybar, valve key, and sledgehammer. Minimum Requirements PHYSICAL SKILLS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and visual communication.

Ability to lift/carry up to 80 pounds and/or maneuver heavy objects such as sewer manhole covers. Field work generally consists of asset data collection, equipment troubleshooting, and other related work as required. Field work requires prolonged exposure to the elements for extended periods of time and the ability to safely traverse uneven ground and brush.

Ability to report to the office daily for assigned duties as this position does not offer the opportunity to work remote. Ability to work 30-38 hours per week. EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Candidate must be enrolled in an accredited college or university pursuing a degree in geography, environmental science, or related field OR recently completed a Bachelor's Degree in a related field.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be 18 years of age. Additional release forms and background check authorizations forms may be required prior to the first day of Volunteer/Internship activities. LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS: Must possess a valid Florida driver's license.

Completion of GIS related certifications preferred.
