JOB TITLE:  Student Intern, GIS System Graphics

Location: North Fort Myers, FL

Time Commitment: Paid Internship; full or parttime depending on the intern's academic schedule and department needs

This is a paid college student intern position that supports the GIS System Graphics Department. LCEC employee benefits are not available to interns in this position.

LCEC provides reliable, cost-competitive electricity to more than 245,000 members throughout a five-county service territory located in Southwest Florida.  We employ approximately 460 skilled employees and are one of more than 900 electric distribution cooperatives located throughout the United States. Position Summary:  This position will assist with the collection and analysis of spatial data, updating GIS databases, and supporting the creation of map products for various departments within LCEC. This position will work closely with experienced GIS professionals to learn about the cooperative's operations and will have the opportunity to participate in fieldwork, which will involve verifying the location and attributes of electrical assets. 

Position Responsibilities: This internship combines productive work for the benefit of the E/O Division with educational experiences for the intern.

  • Entering LCEC assets into GIS system.
  • Adding transmission assembly units to the mapping and staking.
  • Adding new simple service work orders to the mapping and staking.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with employees and customers at all levels within LCEC.  Ensure smooth operations, productive communications, and effective understanding during all interpersonal contacts.  Provide current and accurate information to all requesters, courteously and in a timely manner.

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Enrolled in an institution of post-secondary education and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in a GIS or Engineering field.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office computer programs.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  •  Valid Florida driver's license.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in GPS technology and mobile technology.
  • Prior experience with ESRI, MapWise, and/or CAD.
