Senior Business Analyst - Climate & Geopolitical Risk

Are you looking for a role that challenges you to bring Capital One's risk ecosystem to life? Are you interested in building tools and performing analysis to enable senior executives to better understand how climate and geopolitical events impact our business? If so, a position as a Senior Associate, Business Analyst on the Climate & Geopolitical Risk team may be your perfect fit.

The primary responsibilities of the analyst will be to help run capabilities to assess the impact of key climate and geopolitical events and trends over the immediate, short, medium, and long-term horizons, across all our Lines of Business (LOBs).

The team partners with people across Capital One with diverse skills and backgrounds including: data analysts, product managers, data scientists, risk managers, and business analysts.

As a Senior Associate, Business Analyst at Capital One, you will apply your strategic and analytical skills to address major company challenges. You will team with world-class professionals to develop and develop analytics and reporting tools that will help senior executives to better understand climate and geopolitical risks. And you will do it all in a collaborative environment that values your insight, encourages you to take on new responsibility, promotes continuous learning, and rewards innovation.

The Senior Associate, Business Analyst will report to the Head of Climate & Geopolitical Risk Management.

Role-specific responsibilities include:

  • Drive a cross-functional effort to develop, implement and mature climate risk analytics capabilities across the firm

  • Design and develop tools for monitoring and managing geopolitical risks across the enterprise

  • Develop reporting on the outcomes of climate and geopolitical analysis to a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, Board, and regulators

  • Contribute to appropriate scenario design processes for climate and geopolitical risk

  • Run ad hoc analysis to support the identification and assessment of climate related and geopolitical risks

  • Identify incremental data needs relative to climate and geopolitical risk analytics and participate in efforts to acquire and/or improve the quality of this data

  • Support climate risk content for external disclosures (e.g., 10-K, Climate disclosures)

General Responsibilities:

  • Analysis: Identify business challenges and opportunities for improvement and solve for them using analysis to make strategic or tactical recommendations

  • Execution: Involve problem frame-works, develop hypotheses, test and analysis, solution development, scope operational feasibility, lead implementation efforts and develop a monitoring plan

  • Partnership: Work closely with colleagues across Capital One including: IT, Sales, Operations, Finance and others to drive improvement in quality, volume, service, and profitability

  • Strategic & analytic orientation: A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics. Conceptual thinking skills must be complemented by a strong quantitative orientation, given that a large part of the business is based on rigorous analytic marketing & credit risk management

  • Strong business judgment, leadership and integrity: He/she should be a tenacious decision maker, able to bring a healthy, aggressive, yet responsible approach to business

  • Strong communication skills: Impeccable written and oral communication credentials, coupled with strategic influencing skills and the ability to drive agreement through intellect, interpersonal and negotiation skills

  • Clear results orientation: Display an intense focus on achieving both short and long term goals. He/she should be able to drive and execute an agenda in an uncertain and fluid environment

  • Successful track record of thriving in a fast paced, entrepreneurial and dynamic environment. Previous consulting experience is a plus

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years of professional experience performing analysis

  • Currently has, or is in the process of obtaining one of the following with an expectation that the required degree will be obtained on or before the scheduled start date:

    • A Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative field (Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer engineering, Software engineering, Mechanical engineering, Information Systems or a related quantitative field)

    • A Master's Degree in a quantitative field (Business, Finance, Accounting, Statistics, Economics, Operations Research, Analytics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical engineering, Information Systems or a related quantitative field) or an MBA with a quantitative concentration

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Business or quantitative field such as Finance, Economics, Physical Sciences, Math, Statistics, Engineering

  • 1+ years of experience in Statistical model building

  • 1+ years of experience in market research

  • 1+ years of experience in SQL querying

  • 2+ years of experience in business analysis

  • 1+ years of experience in consulting

  • 1+ years of experience working with AI coding, such as Claude Code

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $111,200 - $126,900 for Sr. Business Analyst


Richmond, VA: $101,100 - $115,400 for Sr. Business Analyst










Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
