Job description

Atย Uplift,ย weโ€™reย on a mission to enable clean and low-cost productionย of metals used in turbines, batteries, and lightweight structural materialsย using our patent-pendingย chemical recyclingย device. By updating decades-old metallurgical processes with the latest advances in electrochemical membrane technology,ย we'reย increasing the accessibility of electric vehiclesย and other clean technologiesย from the ground up.ย Specifically, we areย buildingย electrochemical membraneย devices to regenerate acids and bases from brine streamsย for the integration intoย hydrometallurgical flow sheets.ย Conventional processesย do not recycleย acids, butย rather neutralizeย them in carbon-emitting reactions that produce solid waste streams.ย The industry-leading energyย efficienciesย of our devices and their avoidance of hazardous gas byproductsย enable a revolution inย the production ofย criticalย metals includingย rare earth elements,ย zinc, and magnesium.ย
ย

We are seeking an intern toย assistย in our minerals processingย and extractive metallurgyย research and development.ย We believe diversity makes us stronger. Women, people of color, LGBTQ+, veterans, and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply for this role.ย
ย

โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹Whatย youโ€™llย doย โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹ย

โ€‹โ€‹We are looking for you to:โ€‹ย

  • Prepare rock samples for analysis of chemical composition by mass spectrometry using mills, sieves,ย furnacesย and other chemistry equipment.ย

  • Separate minerals by magnetism and density.ย

  • Perform experiments to assess rates ofย metalsย leaching from rocks.ย

  • Analyze and interpret experimental results and analytical data to evaluate processย performance,ย identifyย trends, and recommend modifications.ย ย
    ย

Requirementsย

  • Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering,ย Materials Science,ย Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Metallurgy, or related fields.ย

  • Comfortable working in an onsite laboratory environment.ย ย

  • Demonstrated safety-first mindset and commitment to safety laboratory practices.ย
    ย

Nice-to-haveย

  • Prior experience working in a chemistry, materials, environmental, or chemical engineering laboratory.ย

  • Knowledge of hazardous material handling, storage, and laboratory waste management.ย

  • Experience conducting literature searches and preparing technical literature summaries.ย

  • Familiar with data analysis software such as Excel, Origin, MATLAB, Python, or similar tools.ย

  • Experience with laboratory analytical techniques and instrumentationย such asย titration, inductively coupled plasmaย mass spectrometry or atomic emission spectrometry, X-Ray diffraction.ย

  • Previousย internship, co-op, or industry experience in research, manufacturing, process development, or engineering environment.ย
    ย

Our valuesย โ€“ The Uplift Wayย

Peopleย firstย

Extraordinary people achieve extraordinary results. We strive to recruit and empower diverse teams because perspective brings strength. We take care of ourselves, our colleagues, our customers, and our communities.ย

Always raising the barย

We take pride in delighting our customers and partners. To be the best team we can be, we value constructivelyย disagreeing, then committing, and adapting as needed. In our continuous pursuit of excellence, we celebrate successes and normalize good-faith stumbles along the way.ย

Bias towards actionย

In the race against climate change, we weigh risks of action against risks of inaction.ย Many decisions are reversible and do not need exhaustive priorย study. We encourage calculated risk taking.ย

Compensationย

Target compensation for this position isย betweenย $20ย /ย hrย and $40ย /ย hrย depending on experience level. Internsย generally doย not have access to company benefits (healthcare, 401(k)).ย
