Job description

The Senior Graphic Designer will create innovative, visually impactful designs for internally and externally facing digital and print applications which directly impact the business interests and brand development of the Detroit Lions.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The Senior Graphic Designer position will have daily responsibilities including, without limitation, the following:

  • The Senior Graphic Designer will take the lead on various projects and campaigns that promote the Detroit Lions brand on social media platforms, DetroitLions.com and paid marketing and advertising campaigns; the Senior Graphic Designer will provide conceptual ideation and constructive feedback, while creating and designing assets used by the department and institution.
  • The Senior Graphic Designer will work with the Creative Director in assisting in managing creative workflows, requested work, conceptualize individual work, as well as act as a leader and mentor to other designers (freelance and interns) to help them further develop their skills.
  • Work with the Creative Director on all idea generation, creation, and management of Detroit Lions brand assets through graphic design specifically for sales, marketing, partnerships, in game experience and social media platforms.
  • Help shape visual look and set graphic plan for department while sticking with established brand guidelines.
  • Research and generate preliminary design, finalize and update print collateral - including, but not limited to invitations, brochures, one-page flyers, posters, program books flyers, folders, program booklets and agendas, small/medium/large scale publications, development and fundraising materials, signage, wall art, advertisements, infographics, and marketing materials.
  • Provide graphic design support within the organization for creating print and digital collateral and signage that consistently exemplifies the brand's global branding while meeting deadlines.

NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, while taking direction from the Creative Director, collaborating with the rest of the Creative Services team and multi-tasking projects.
  • Works independently to achieve brand awareness throughout multiple media channels and platforms.
  • Manage relationships with internal partners and external vendors
  • Will accept other responsibilities and duties required by the supervisor consistent with the objectives and essential functions of this position. Such responsibilities shall be incorporated into the position description if they are ongoing.
  • Exercise discretion with confidential information

 QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field
  • Minimum of 6 years of active employment as a creative professional; experience in sports and/or entertainment preferred
  • Must present a portfolio of works that represents a diverse creative skill set including:
    • Publication layout
    • Typography
    • Identity/logo design
    • Photo editing and compositing
    • Adherence to a style guide/brand system
  • Mastery of Adobe Creative Suite, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. After Effects and Premiere Pro a plus
  • Excellent design sense; thorough understanding of design theory including principles such as color, typography and composition
  • Knowledge of print production and the pre-press process
  • Solid design expertise in social media and digital user experience
  • Experience with client relationships, understanding client needs and meeting deadlines
  • Experience working collaboratively across multiple departments
  • In depth understanding of the National Football League
