Job description

Thank you for your interest in an internship with the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters. It is our goal to provide you with hands-on experience and knowledge useful in competing for jobs in the baseball industry, beginning with Summer Collegiate Baseball. We will also work with you to fulfill requirements for college credit if necessary. Our internships are a great learning opportunity where previous experience is not always necessary. The Rafters are a part of the Northwoods League, a summer collegiate league located in the midwest. Each summer the Rafters host 36 games at Historic Witter Field and bring in over 35,000 fans through the gates.
Position Overview:
We are seeking a talented and passionate Baseball TV color announcer to provide live commentary and analysis of Wisconsin Rapids Rafters games at home for our dedicated audience. As the voice of the team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering an exciting and engaging experience to fans, bringing the spirit of the game to life through your dynamic broadcasting skills. The ideal candidate should have a deep knowledge of baseball, exceptional verbal communication abilities, and a captivating on-air presence. This position will also be in charge of running all video board operations during home games. This is no lazy summer internship! It is However, Very Rewarding and Very Memorable!
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Live Game Broadcasting: Deliver live play-by-play coverage of Wisconsin Rapids Rafters games, including pre-game, in-game, and post-game commentary, at home, keeping fans informed and entertained throughout the broadcast and the season.
  2. Analysis and Insights: Provide expert analysis and insights into the game, players' strategies, and key moments, enhancing the listener's understanding and appreciation of the sport.
  3. Preparation: Research teams, players, and game statistics to be well-informed and prepared for each broadcast, ensuring accurate and insightful commentary.
  4. On-Air Presentation: Exhibit a dynamic and enthusiastic on-air presence, capturing the excitement of the game and maintaining a high level of energy throughout the broadcast.
  5. Interviewing: Conduct engaging interviews with players, coaches, and other team personnel, adding depth to the broadcast and providing unique insights into the team's dynamics.
  6. Commercial Integration: Seamlessly integrate sponsor messages and commercials into the broadcast while maintaining the integrity of the game coverage.
  7. Audience Engagement: Foster a strong connection with the radio audience by interacting with fans on social media and responding to listener inquiries during the broadcast.
  8. Game Recaps: Prepare concise and engaging game recaps, highlighting key moments and standout performances for post-game analysis and online content.
  9. Collaboration With Station: Be a part of the weekly sports show on the local radio station that airs Rafters games.
  10. Travel: Accompany the team on away games and provide remote broadcasting from different locations as required.
  11. Submit team rosters in a timely and accurate manner for all games once verified with the head coach & on-field manager.
  12. Video Board: Run all video board operations and help write daily game scripts.
  13. This is not an all-inclusive list and you will be assigned additional team duties to ensure a positive fan experience, facilities cleanliness, and everyone's safety.

Requirements:
  • Previous Broadcasting Experience: Proven experience as a sports broadcaster, preferably with a focus on baseball or other team sports.
  • Baseball Enthusiast: An in-depth knowledge of baseball rules, strategies, and players, coupled with a genuine passion for the sport.
  • Excellent Verbal Communication: Exceptional on-air communication skills, with the ability to articulate game action clearly and concisely.
  • Knowledge of Broadcasting Equipment: Familiarity with broadcasting equipment, audio editing software, and remote broadcasting technology.
  • Adaptability: Ability to think quickly on your feet and adapt to fast-paced game situations.
  • Strong Team Player: Willingness to work closely with the production team, coaches, and players to enhance the overall broadcasting experience.
  • Professionalism: Maintain a professional demeanor and adhere to FCC broadcasting ethics and guidelines.
  • Availability: Flexibility to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays to cover games and events.

Educational Background:
Pursuing or obtained a degree in Journalism, Broadcasting, Communications, or a related field is highly preferred but not mandatory.
Duration of Commitment & Compensation:
This is a 3 month (Mid-May through Mid-August) summer internship position. Compensation and academic credit options can be discussed during the interview process.
