The New York Islanders Hockey Club is one of the most iconic franchises in professional sports, with a deeply passionate and loyal fan base that is second to none. Built on a Dynasty in the 1980’s with four straight Stanley Cup Championships and 19 consecutive playoff series wins, our history has defined a legacy that remains untouched in professional sports. That legacy inspires us to leave our mark in the sports, entertainment, and cultural landscape.


In 2021, the New York Islanders moved to our new permanent home, UBS Arena. This state-of-the-art venue, which was built for hockey and made for music, is nestled within the historic Belmont Park – a storied landmark of New York. UBS Arena features best in class facilities and amenities, including premium suites, clubs, and lounges that offer boutique hospitality to elevate the guest experience. UBS Arena is part of a larger redevelopment project at Belmont Park, which aims to transform the area into a vibrant entertainment destination with the opening of Belmont Park Village in 2024 and the new Belmont Park Racetrack in 2026.


How to Make the Team

The New York Islanders and UBS Arena are seeking a motivated Intern, Graphic Design to join our creative team. Day-to-day assignments will be determined by the creative leads. This internship is a hands-on opportunity to build real-world design and production skills across team branding, game presentation, venue marketing, live events, digital, social, print, partnership, and community channels.


The ideal intern is a developing designer who is eager to learn brand systems, marketing needs, and production realities. They can execute, adapt, and stay organized while maintaining brand standards for both the New York Islanders and UBS Arena.


This is a shared role: our creative group supports both the New York Islanders and UBS Arena. The goal is simple: create clear, high-quality work for the creative team that services both the New York Islanders and UBS Arena.


Show Us You Can

Work is assigned across both organizations based on business needs and may include:

  • Help create digital and print assets, including paid/social graphics, email graphics, web graphics, sales collateral for ticket sales, partnership, premium hospitality, and community-engagement creative
  • Assist in designing production-ready files for print, digital, large-format, signage, and in-venue display needs
  • Help maintain brand standards, templates, layouts, and asset libraries
  • Communicate progress, ask questions, and flag issues early
  • Stay current on design trends, live entertainment, creative, sports marketing, and digital best practices

Your Training & Talent

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in graphic design, visual communication, or a related field
  • Some coursework, freelance, or project experience in graphic design; experience with a sports team, live entertainment venue, music brand, agency, or hospitality brand is a plus but not required
  • Must submit a portfolio (student or personal work welcome) showing a range of work, including any of the following:
  1. Layout design
  2. Typography
  3. Social and digital marketing creative
  4. Print design
  5. Presentation design
  6. Photo editing and image composition
  • Working understanding of core design principles, including typography, layout, color, hierarchy, composition, and visual storytelling
  • Working proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign
  • Comfort taking direction from team leads, receiving feedback, and applying edits
  • Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn production fundamentals
  • Ability to manage time, stay organized, and communicate proactively
  • Familiarity with project management tools such as Asana or similar platforms is a plus
  • Interest in music, live entertainment, hockey, sports

The hourly rate for this position is between $20.00-$25.00. Actual hourly pay for a successful candidate will be determined based on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to, skills, education, training, experience and market demands.
