Position Overview
Computer Science at Earlham is a dynamic program, with an orientation towards combining experiential education and collaboration with other departments as key components of our approach. We are committed to building an inclusive program that is welcoming to a wide variety of students and faculty. Our students are engaged in a very high level of undergraduate research, application development and system support activity with faculty and the department’s computational systems manager.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Typical course load: three courses per semester. Upper-division classes generally have no more than 20 students.
- Interest in being involved in undergraduate research, as is an interest in multidisciplinary collaborations.
- Interest in leading student Applied Groups is highly desirable.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will:
- Candidates in all areas of specialization are welcome.
- Hold a Ph.D. in computer science, or a closely related discipline by the start date. It is possible that candidates who are ABD or, in exceptional circumstances, have equivalent experience, will also be considered.
- Teach courses across the computer science curriculum, such as CS 1, Algorithms, Data Structures, Senior Capstone Project, etc.
- Conduct computer science research involving undergraduate students at Earlham.
- Demonstrate experience with and a passion for innovative teaching.
- Demonstrate ability to contribute to the advancement of Earlham’s Mission and Principles & Practices
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will:
- Be passionate about the intersection between computer science and the liberal arts.
- Embrace collaboration with fellow Earlham faculty.
- Have experience working with others outside their field.
- Have experience in building diverse and inclusive communities.
- Have teaching/research experience in the area of systems administration, cybersecurity, or artificial intelligence.
