About Alpine Software

Alpine Software builds mission-critical software that empowers fire and EMS agencies to operate more effectively and serve their communities with excellence. Our flagship platform supports essential fire department operations with a fully integrated suite of mobile and desktop products.

Trusted by departments across the country, our software plays a central role in helping public safety agencies streamline administrative workflows, maintain regulatory compliance, and ensure their teams are prepared to respond when it matters most. At Alpine, we are deeply committed to delivering reliable, secure, and innovative technology that supports first responders in their mission to protect lives and property.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a Director of Engineering to lead the modernization effort to transform our desktop application into a cloud-native, AI-enabled web platform. This is a rare opportunity to help lead the evolution of a proven public safety product into its next generation.

You will work closely with an existing team that is currently driving the AI-forward replatforming initiative and eventually own the technical direction of continued modernization and development. This role will be critical in ensuring a smooth knowledge transfer, long-term architectural ownership, and continued innovation within our team.

This position is ideal for a leader who enjoys building, mentoring, and driving meaningful technical transformation, especially in environments adopting AI-assisted engineering practices.

What You'll Do

Lead the Web Modernization Strategy

  • Partner with the modernization team to replatform our software to a cloud-native web architecture.
  • Guide the transition of long-term technical ownership into Alpine's engineering team.
  • Establish scalable architecture, standards, and engineering governance.
  • Define technical prioritization and outline best practices.

Be a Hands-On Technical Leader

  • Contribute directly to backend and frontend development.
  • Lead architecture discussions and perform high-quality code reviews.
  • Mentor and develop mid- and junior-level engineers, helping manage a team of up to 4 direct reports across the strategic side of our business.
  • Serve as the primary technical escalation point within the business unit.

Drive AI-Assisted Development Practices

  • Champion and institutionalize AI-assisted development workflows.
  • Work within an agentic AI modernization model to accelerate legacy transformation.
  • Ensure the team is comfortable and effective using modern AI coding tools and automation practices.
  • Help establish safe, scalable, and measurable AI integration into the SDLC.

Build Modern Engineering Discipline

  • Implement strong CI/CD and DevSecOps practices.
  • Ensure secure, scalable, observable systems in Azure.
  • Improve delivery predictability, engineering velocity, and quality standards.
Technology Stack

Backend: C# / .NET, Microsoft Azure, SQL Server or PostgreSQL

Frontend: React, TypeScript, Next.js

Infrastructure & DevOps: CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions), Infrastructure as Code, Containerization (Docker/Kubernetes preferred)

What We're Looking For
  • 8+ years of progressive software engineering experience.
  • 3+ years in a senior technical leadership role (Director, Principal, Manager, Staff+).
  • Strong hands-on experience with C# / .NET, Azure cloud architecture, React / TypeScript, and SQL Server or PostgreSQL.
  • Experience modernizing or replatforming complex legacy systems.
  • Comfort working in AI-assisted development environments (e.g., Copilot, agent-based workflows, automated code generation, LLM-integrated tooling).
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading delivery execution.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Nice to Have
  • Experience rewriting legacy desktop applications (Delphi or Titanium SDK).
  • Familiarity with fire, EMS, or public safety software.
  • Experience building or operating multi-tenant SaaS systems.
  • Experience working in fast-paced or startup-like environments.
  • Experience managing distributed teams in various locations.
Why Join Alpine Software?
  • Lead a high-impact modernization initiative.
  • Shape long-term technical ownership of a mission-critical platform.
  • Build software that directly supports first responders.
  • Work at the intersection of public safety and AI-forward development.
  • Help define how AI-assisted engineering transforms legacy enterprise software.
  • Join a passionate, energetic team dedicated to meaningful work.
