What is an internship full stack developer?

An Internship Full Stack Developer job is a temporary position where candidates gain hands-on experience in both front-end and back-end web development. Interns typically work with technologies like HTML, CSS, JavaScript, databases, and server-side frameworks to develop and maintain web applications. They often collaborate with senior developers, participate in coding tasks, fix bugs, and contribute to real-world projects. This role helps interns build practical skills, understand development workflows, and prepare for full-time roles in software development.

What kind of projects or tasks will I work on as an internship full stack developer?

As an Internship Full Stack Developer, you can expect to work on a variety of tasks that may include building user interfaces, developing backend APIs, integrating databases, fixing bugs, and supporting ongoing software projects. You'll typically collaborate with senior developers, designers, and other interns, allowing you to learn agile development practices and improve your coding skills in real-world applications. The scope of your responsibilities may also expand based on your progress and the needs of the team, giving you opportunities to explore both front-end and back-end development. This hands-on project experience is a key stepping stone toward launching a successful career as a Full Stack Developer.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an internship full stack developer?

To thrive as an Internship Full Stack Developer, you should have a solid understanding of both front-end and back-end programming languages (such as JavaScript, HTML/CSS, and a back-end language like Node.js or Python) and foundational knowledge of databases. Familiarity with tools like version control (Git), frameworks (React, Angular, or Express), and basic web development environments is useful, though formal certifications are less critical for internship roles. Strong problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn, and effective communication will help you excel and blend well into a development team. These abilities allow interns to contribute meaningfully to projects while gaining valuable hands-on experience and collaborating well with others.

Job description

Full Stack Engineer About this role

We are looking for a Full Stack Engineer (employee #5!) excited to ship a consumer travel product built with AI at its core. This role will have enormous ownership and impact over the shape of the software engineering team, and will be responsible for key system design & architectural decisions. This is a product focused role on a team that strives for good code, fast iteration cycles, and a high quality user experience.

What youโ€™ll be doing

Youโ€™ll work alongside an incredible team building in an AI native environment.

You'll solve hard technical problems from scratch, owning the solution through the entire development lifecycle.

You'll contribute to the creation of the team culture, as well as inner tooling and processes.

What we are looking for
  • You have built a technically strong, independent project from scratch (e.g., an open-source project or functioning product) and are able to ideate & execute on a product idea end-to-end.
  • You have worked in a high-growth, fast-paced environment (ideally another startup) and can drive things forward with relatively little directional oversight.
  • You want ownership, and you thrive on a small team.
  • You want to play at an elite level, and want to be surrounded by other people who want to win.
Developers on the team today
  • Work primarily in Python & TypeScript.
  • Ship UIs in React, often with Tailwind, and usually with Next.js.
  • Commit against a monorepo where every engineer is expected to work across the full tech stack.
  • Focus on time-to-value and prioritizing velocity and speed of iteration (we know getting to product market fit means having as many possible swings at bat).
  • Value clear written communication (we write more than we meet).
  • Set clear goals for themselves and commit to them in a group setting.
  • Can always answer the question โ€œwhat did you ship this week?โ€
Why work at Gondola

Join a fantastic, tight-knit team at the right time: We just raised a seed round from a fantastic group of investors, and you'd join at an important time when a single person could significantly change the course of the company.

Do your life's work with people youโ€™ll enjoy working with: we care strongly about our craft and want every person at Gondola to feel like they're growing every day. We believe in the idea that working with people you both enjoy and have respect for makes everything better. We hire thoughtfully and only work with people we admire deeply.

Build the future of travel: 10 years from now, consumer travel will look fundamentally different than it does today. This is an opportunity to be an early employee at a generational consumer brand.
