Job description

The world of digital assets is accelerating in speed, magnitude, and complexity, opening the door to new ways for leveraging the blockchain. Fireblocks’ platform and network provide the simplest and most secure way for companies to work with digital assets and it trusted by some of the largest financial institutions, banks, globally‑recognized brands, and Web3 companies in the world, including BNY Mellon, BNP Paribas, ANZ Bank, Revolut, and thousands more.

About the Role

We're building our Blockchain Engineering presence in our New York City office to spearhead blockchain technology initiatives and establish foundational infrastructure for our expanding product suite. This is a unique opportunity to shape blockchain engineering practices at a market‑leading company while working on cutting‑edge solutions that power institutional digital asset operations.

As a Blockchain Engineer, you will be instrumental in the research and integration of blockchain technologies into the Fireblocks platform. Your responsibilities include collaborating closely with foundations and developers to gain a deep understanding of blockchain protocols and on‑chain projects. This knowledge will then be applied to implement new features within the Fireblocks platform.

You will focus equally on external protocol integration patterns and internal wallet infrastructure. This role serves as a technical bridge between raw on‑chain integrated capabilities and the valuable wallet features delivered to customers.

This role will report into our Senior Director, Wallet Technology. Our team works in a hybrid model with three days in our NYC office.

What You’ll Do
  • Research and prototype new blockchain features including Layer 2 solutions, cross‑chain bridges, and DeFi protocols
  • Design and implement secure, scalable blockchain solutions that integrate with Fireblocks’ existing infrastructure
  • Represent the company's interests and provide structured feedback to foundations on protocol design, tooling, and support
  • Advocate for features or changes that would benefit the wallet infrastructure and its users
  • Establish strong partnerships with blockchain foundations, vendors, builders, and customers to address challenges, implement solutions, and ensure we are building the right blockchain integrations
  • Collaborate with product, engineering, and security teams to define technical requirements for blockchain initiatives
  • Mentor and guide other engineers on blockchain technologies and implementations
  • Stay current with emerging blockchain technologies, protocols, and industry developments
What You’ll Bring
  • 6+ years of backend development experience in modern languages (Go, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and a collaborative mindset
  • Knowledge of consensus mechanisms, cryptographic primitives, and distributed systems
  • Understanding of microservices architecture and API design
  • Experience working in cross‑functional teams and fast‑paced environments
  • Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail
  • Previous experience in the blockchain ecosystem
Preferred:
  • 4+ years of hands‑on blockchain development experience
  • Experience building blockchain solutions for enterprise or institutional use cases
  • Understanding of security best practices for smart contracts and blockchain systems
  • Demonstrated ability to apply AI tools for programming with experience in vibe coding
  • Excellent technical communication skills for both technical and non‑technical stakeholders
  • Experience with institutional DeFi, staking protocols, or custody solutions
  • Understanding of MPC, multi‑signature wallets, or other advanced cryptographic techniques
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm
Success Criteria & Impact:
  • The team is never surprised by a technical change in a core protocol
  • Research is consistently used as the foundation for architectural decisions
  • Considered subject matter experts by internal engineering teams
  • Provide foundational knowledge needed to make informed, long‑term strategic decisions, de‑risk new integrations, and stay ahead of the technology curve
  • Consistent contribution to Fireblocks system by pushing impactful design and code to production

For employees hired to work from our NYC HQ, Fireblocks is required by law to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role. This range is specific to New York City and takes into consideration a wide range of factors that are reviewed when making a hiring decision, such as years of experience, skills, and other business needs. A reasonable base salary range estimate for this position is $177,000 to $230,000. The base salary is one component of the total compensation package, which for some roles may include a target bonus, a very competitive equity grant, and very generous benefits. While we believe competitive compensation is a critical aspect of you deciding to join us, we hope you also spend time considering why our mission and culture are right for you.

Fireblocks’ mission is to enable every business to easily and securely access digital assets and cryptocurrencies. In order to do that, we strongly believe our workforce should be as diverse as our clients, and this is why we embrace diversity and inclusion in all its forms.
