Job description

General Description of Position:

The Mechanical/Design Engineer is responsible for assisting in the design, development, and improvement of mechanical systems and components for Crest boats. This position will work under the supervision of the Director of Engineering to support various engineering projects, ensuring that all products meet the highest standards of quality, performance, and safety. The role also includes performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and ensuring designs are optimized for manufacturing and assembly.


Duties:

The position will be accountable for the following:

- Product Development

- Manage the development of new products from concept to production phase-in under the supervision of the Director of Engineering.

- Provide detailed designs and support to vendors.

- Troubleshoot design-related production problems with Process Engineering and Quality Control.

- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate designs and ensure structural integrity.

- Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing and assembly processes.

- Develop Bills of Materials (B.O.M.) and layout B.O.M. on drawings and assemblies.

- Interface with suppliers to ensure correct product applications and installations.

- Participate directly in the development and testing of new products and prototypes.

- Continuously develop and implement upgrades to products once in production.

- Ensure effective interdepartmental communication.

- Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work area, adhering to company policies and procedures.

- Ensure timely and adequate completion of all applicable phases of projects.

- Maintain direct and frequent interface with other departments to ensure consistency throughout the organization.

- Maintain personal project folders with complete and updated information.

- Coordinate and maintain 3-D CAD models, ensuring interface fit, detail, and completion of all assigned new models.

- Develop engineering detailed drawings based on conceptual arrangements.

- Provide technical product assistance to the Service Department.


Organization/Individuals outside of Crest with regular contact:

- Vendor Representatives – to assist with material issues.

- Sub-Contractors – for tooling and new parts.


Organization/Individuals inside of Crest with regular contact:

- Sales Department – for research and direction.

- Production Managers/Supervisors – to support the implementation of improved materials and processes.

- Supply Management – to support the procurement of new and updated parts/materials.


Education & Work Experience:

- Bachelor's Degree, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture or related field preferred.

- Minimum 3 years' experience in marine design and mechanical background with knowledge of production process.

- Strong background in computer aided design and engineering.

- Committed to quality and standards that are accepted by societies and industry.

- Must interface well with other employees, the public and be a team player.

- Working knowledge of PC based software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)


Environmental Conditions:

Works in an office environment. Office environment has controlled temperature, humidity and noise levels. Effective near vision or near vision accommodation is required. Minimal bending, stooping, walking, and stair climbing are required as is lifting items of moderate weight. MasterCraft quality standards and safety rules and regulations are mandatory.


Travel: Minimal travel required.
