Job description

Preserve Shady Rest is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that is dedicated to promoting the history and preservation of Shady Rest Country Club. As the first Black-owned country club in the United States, Shady Rest was a major hub for 1920s jazz entertainment and the residence of John Shippen Jr., the first American professional golfer. The organization is committed to historical preservation, community engagement, and advancing opportunities in golf.


Role Description:

This is a part-time internship role as Marketing and Social Media Intern as a Tiktok Specialist at Preserve Shady Rest. As a Marketing and Social Media Intern, you will be responsible for creating and implementing social media strategies to increase brand awareness and engagement. This is the perfect internship for someone who has interest in learning about the sports and recreation industry, enthused about history, or would like to pursue a career in digital marketing. While the internship is unpaid, you will have the opportunity to learn more about sports marketing, fundraising, merchandising, and the scope of historical organizations. This is a hybrid role, based in Scotch Plains, NJ, with majority of work being conducted remotely. Individual must have the ability to work in-person for special events.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Own and manage Preserve Shady Rest's TikTok account and content calendar.
  • Plan, film, edit, and publish engaging short-form vertical videos.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of TikTok and emerging social media platforms, driving day-to-day management of the organization's social channels.
  • Stay current on TikTok trends, sounds, editing styles, algorithms, and platform updates to maximize reach and engagement.
  • Develop creative storytelling ideas that make history engaging and accessible to younger audiences.
  • Capture content during tournaments, community programs, youth golf clinics, museum exhibits, and special events.
  • Create behind-the-scenes, educational, and trend-driven content that increases awareness and engagement.
  • Conduct influencer marketing campaigns and collaborate with creators to expand the organization's reach and introduce Shady Rest to new audiences.
  • Plan and execute PR and social media campaigns that deliver measurable results and support fundraising, community engagement, merchandise, and event promotion.
  • Monitor TikTok and social media analytics, providing recommendations to improve growth, engagement, and audience retention.
  • Collaborate with staff, volunteers, and community partners to feature interviews, event highlights, and community stories.
  • Repurpose TikTok content for Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Facebook, and other platforms when appropriate.
  • Help maintain a consistent brand voice and visual identity across all digital content.
  • Learn about nonprofit marketing, sports marketing, fundraising, historical storytelling, and digital content strategy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:.

  • Experience creating TikTok or other short-form video content with demonstrated engagement or audience growth.
  • Strong understanding of TikTok trends, algorithms, editing techniques, and best practices.
  • Comfortable filming and editing videos using CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, Canva, or similar editing software.
  • Creative storyteller with strong attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with social media analytics and performance metrics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Passion for creating authentic, engaging digital content.
  • Ability to foster an inclusive environment that engages diverse communities and supports the organization's mission.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience managing or growing a TikTok account.
  • Experience working with a non-profit organization.
  • Pursuit of career in sports marketing, digital marketing, history, museums, or graphic design.
  • Photography or videography experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of golf is a plus.
