We are looking for a passionate and mission-focused Principal Software Engineer to join our Geospatial Center of Excellence. This is a unique opportunity to be part of an exciting initiative at NGA, where modern software development practices are being used to address critical mission challenges for the agency and its users. You will be working with a modern technology stack, rapidly developing intelligence analysis products, and contributing to a culture of innovation. Required Skills:

  • 10+ years of software development experience

  • Hands-on experience with Python in production application development environments or building large-scale ETL/data pipelines (beyond basic scripting)

  • Experience with containerized application development and deployment using Docker or Podman on Kubernetes/OpenShift environments

  • Experience with Git-based source control and GitLab CI/CD pipelines, including automated testing and deployment

  • Experience with web services architecture, design, and development, including microservice architectures

  • Experience with database design including relational, spatial, and NoSQL databases

  • Experience with Agile methodologies, serving as a Scrum or team lead

  • Active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field


Nice to Have:

  • Experience building backend web services using FastAPI or Node.js

  • Experience working with JavaScript framework technologies (React, TypeScript, Angular, Node.js, etc.).

  • Experience with React is highly preferred

  • Experience with scientific Python libraries such as TensorFlow, SciPy, or Scikit-learn

  • Experience developing cloud-native applications and services within AWS, including S3, ECR, Lambda, and SQS

  • Experience with Spring applications

  • Experience as a full-stack developer, including Web Services, Database, and Front-End Development

  • Experience working with and developing Geospatial Information Systems (GIS), including open-source and proprietary geospatial formats
