Job description

NiSource Internship Program Introduction

NiSource is currently seeking a Summer Federal Government Affairs Intern. Successful applicants will become integral members of the department while learning within a team environment, completing meaningful tasks and collaborating with team members and leaders on important projects. This position will be a great opportunity for the candidate desiring to launch their career in the field. Successful applicants will build professional relationships with other interns and all levels of NiSource personnel while participating in rewarding professional development exercises and fun, team-building activities. Interns will obtain a broad overview of NiSource's operations and current events in the utilities industry.

This is a 12-week summer internship program starting in May 2027, for students entering their junior or senior year in fall 2027. The role is based in Washington DC. Candidates must reside within 50 miles of the reporting location to be eligible.

Job Summary

The NiSource Public Affairs and Sustainability intern willsupport the work of the NiSourceFederal Government Affairsteambased in Washington, D.C., whichis responsible forthe execution of strategies to influence federal government policies and regulations. This internship offers hands-on experiencein developing and driving NiSource-wide policy priorities.Thepositionwill alsoassistwith NiSource's Political Action Committee (PAC) and related initiatives. Reporting to the Manager of Federal Government Affairs, the intern will collaborate with internal stakeholders across multiple teams.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with the Federal Government Affairs team toassistin the execution of government affairs strategies designed to meet the organization's strategic goals andobjectives.

  • Supports the development and execution of the organization's strategic public policy priorities and advocacy plans that will be integralinthe long-term success of the company.

  • Contributes to the solicitation strategies and implemented plans developed by the NiSource Federal Government Affairs team.

  • Prepareswritten summaries oftestimonies related to relevant hearings to the company, highlighting potential impacts on business operations.

  • Helps advance ongoing PAC-related efforts to increase membership across the enterprise.

  • Drivescontinuous improvement instreamlining record-keeping across PAC membership.

  • Developsmaterials to support team meetings and cross-functional collaboration.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications for Position

  • Enrolled in a college orgraduate programwith a focusonPolitical Science,Public Policy,Energy,Sustainability, Engineering, ora relatedfield.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).

  • Stronganalytical and research skills.

  • Excellent written and verbalcommunicationsskills

  • High-performance individual,eager to learn and ready to take ownership of assigned duties.

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and cooperatively on teams.

  • Ability to work 40 hrs/week during the summer

  • Authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship

Preferred Additional QualificationsForPosition

  • Curiosity and/orawareness of the current and emerging issues facing the utility and energy industry.

  • Experience working in government and/or advocacy community.

Salary Range*:

$17.20 - $29.70
