Job description

Nemours Children's Health is seeking an Epic Decisioning Clinical Informatics Specialist to join our team in either Jacksonville, Florida, Pensacola, Florida, Orlando, Florida or Wilmington, Delaware. 
 

Primary Function 

The Epic Decisioning Clinical Informatics Specialist is responsible for providing direct clinical and technical support to Nemours associates across the enterprise to promote the efficient, accurate, safe, and effective use of the electronic health record and related clinical information systems. This role serves as a bridge between clinical operations, informatics, information technology, education, and operational leadership by translating clinical needs into workflow, documentation, education, and technology solutions that support high-quality patient care and Nemours strategic initiatives. 

Essential Functions 

  • Provides daily shoulder-to-shoulder Epic Decisioning support, troubleshooting, and workflow guidance to Nemours associates throughout the enterprise. 
  •  Serves as an Epic Decisioning tiger team subject matter expert to promote effective use of the electronic health record and related clinical systems. 
  • Facilitates optimization of the electronic medical record to enhance clinical documentation, improve usability, reduce unnecessary burden, and support safe, efficient, patient-centered care. 
  • Supports defined intake, routing, triage, escalation, and decisioning processes for Epic-related requests, ensuring submissions are complete, appropriately documented, and routed through established governance pathways. 
  • Analyzes complex operational workflows, identifies root issues and performance gaps, and recommends practical solutions that align clinical needs, operational priorities, technical capabilities, and organizational standards. 
  • Translates clinical and operational requirements into clear workflow, documentation, training, and system-related specifications for review by informatics, operational, and information technology stakeholders. 
  • Provides education to Nemours associates for upgrades, optimizations, workflow changes, and adoption of new or revised electronic health record functionality. 
  • Coaches and guides end users in developing and broadening skills related to electronic health record use, documentation, workflows, communication tools, and EMR integrated technologies. 
  • Continually evaluates workflows and changes in practice to improve processes, support evidence-based care, strengthens data quality, and facilitates safe clinical decision-making. 
  • Develops and uses methods for obtaining feedback from associates and leaders; responds to concerns in a timely manner and uses aggregate feedback to improve systems, service delivery, clinician satisfaction, patient safety, and patient experience. 
  • Acts as a liaison to informatics committees, Epic decisioning workgroups, hospital-based councils, unit-based shared governance informatics councils, and other interdisciplinary forums as assigned. 

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required in nursing, allied health, health care administration, health informatics, information systems, business, education, or a related field. A professional clinical license may be required based on role scope, department assignment, and operational need. Master's degree in health informatics, nursing informatics, health care administration, business administration, information systems, education, or a related field preferred. 
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in clinical practice, clinical operations, electronic health record support, clinical informatics, health care education, workflow analysis, implementation support, intake coordination, project support, or a related area required.
  • Experience with Epic or other electronic health record systems, clinical documentation workflows, training, go-live support, issue triage, workflow optimization, data analysis, quality improvement, or interdisciplinary project work preferred. 
  • Active professional clinical licensure in nursing or other allied health field required.

Preferred certifications, one or more of the following:

  • Epic certification or proficiency in a relevant application
  • Certified Associate in Healthcare Information and Management Systems
  • Certified Professional in Healthcare Information and Management Systems
  • American Nurses Credentialing Center Informatics Nursing certification, or other recognized health informatics certification
