Job Description Summary
Chicago State University Department of Art and Design invites applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of 2D Studio, beginning August 2026. Responsibilities include teaching approximately 12 contact hours of classes per semester with most courses in the disciplines of drawing, painting, foundations, in addition to contemporary art practices. Experience with fiber arts and weaving a plus. Additional responsibilities include contributing to curriculum development; collaborating with other art and design faculty members; participating in assessment activities; supervising students in internships and professionally related activities internally and externally; actively interacting with the broader CSU community; serving on program and university wide committees; scholarly, creative and/or professional activity; and other activities.
Required Education
MFA in Drawing and Painting or equivalent discipline.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Command of fundamentals in addition to contemporary practices in the field.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with a diverse population of students. Experience leading collaborative and community-based artwork. Strong exhibition record in the field. Depth and breadth in the studio art disciplines. Ability to work across disciplines.
Experience teaching at the college level and teaching upper-level courses.
