How much do internship engineering rotational program jobs pay per hour?
What can I expect from the team structure and mentorship during the Engineering Rotational Program internship?
What is the difference between Internship Engineering Rotational Program vs Engineering Intern?
| Aspect | Internship Engineering Rotational Program | Engineering Intern |
|---|---|---|
| Credentials | Typically enrolled in or recent graduate of an engineering degree | Enrolled in or recent graduate of an engineering program |
| Work Environment | Structured rotations across departments, mentorship, project exposure | Project-based tasks within a specific team or department |
| Duration | Usually 3-12 months with multiple rotations | Usually 3-6 months, focused on a single project |
| Purpose | Develop broad engineering skills and understanding of company operations | Gain practical experience in a specific engineering area |
The Internship Engineering Rotational Program offers a comprehensive, multi-department experience designed to develop well-rounded engineers, while an Engineering Intern typically focuses on a specific project or area within a shorter timeframe. Both roles are valuable for gaining industry exposure, but the rotational program provides broader insight into the company's engineering functions.
What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in an Internship Engineering Rotational Program, and why are they important?

We seek those who share our commitment to customer service, innovation, and ingenuity.
Program Overview
The Early Career Engineering Rotational Program (Mechanical) is designed for recent graduates seeking hands-on experience across the lifecycle of distributed energy systems. This program provides structured rotations across Engineering, Operations & Maintenance (O&M), and Solutions Engineering/EPC, with each rotation lasting approximately 9 months.
Participants will gain exposure to mechanical systems supporting power generation, including engines, cooling systems, fuel systems, and balance-of-plant equipment while also developing cross-functional knowledge in project execution and field operations.
This program offers a unique opportunity to build both technical depth and operational understanding in a fast-growing energy company.
What You'll Do
- Rotate across Engineering, O&M, and Solutions Engineering/EPC teams over a ~27-month programย
- Support mechanical design and system layout for power generation and microgrid systems
- Assist with installation, commissioning, and maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems
- Gain exposure to generators, engines, fuel systems, cooling systems, and auxiliary equipment
- Participate in troubleshooting and root cause analysis of mechanical and operational issues
- Work closely with field teams to understand real-world operations and maintenance practices
- Support project execution, including vendor coordination, scheduling, and field activities
- Analyze system performance, efficiency, and reliability data
- Contribute to technical documentation, procedures, and engineering deliverables
- Learn and apply safety standards, compliance requirements, and operational best practices
Requirements
Basic (Required) Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related field (recent graduate or within 1-2 years of experience) Foundational knowledge of mechanical systems, thermodynamics, and fluid systems Strong interest in power generation, energy systems, or industrial equipment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective communication skills and willingness to learn
- Ability to be based in Houston, TX and travel to field sites as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
- Internship or co-op experience in energy, manufacturing, oil & gas, or industrial environments
- Exposure to rotating equipment, engines, or power systems
- Familiarity with CAD tools (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, etc.)ย
