The Engineer II applies quality tools such as PPAP, PFMEA, SPC, Gage R&R, calibration systems, and corrective and preventive actions to address production issues and support continuous quality improvement. Through cross-functional collaboration and data-driven analysis, this role helps ensure battery cell components meet established standards for quality, reliability, and performance.

Report To:
Sr. Manager, Cell Quality Assurance

Responsibilities:
Develop and document inspection Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure inspection reliability and verify applicability within inspection and testing processes.
Analyze production process conditions and manufacturing data to identify root causes of electrode nonconformance, including field quality issues, and implement corrective actions in collaboration with cross-functional teams.
Conduct analysis of nonconforming electrode samples, document investigation results, report findings to headquarters, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Utilize analytical and statistical methods, including Statistical Process Control (SPC), to monitor electrode manufacturing quality, identify potential risk factors, and implement preventive quality measures.
Perform surveillance audits of electrode production processes to verify compliance with quality standards, procedures, and operational requirements.
Review and approve PPAP documentation and 4M process changes related to electrode manufacturing to ensure quality requirements are maintained.
Perform cell validation testing, including performance, safety, and reliability evaluations, to confirm product quality and manufacturing process stability.
Maintain worksite organization and cleanliness in accordance with 5S3R standards (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain; Right Location, Right Quantity, Right Container) to support safe and efficient electrode inspection and testing operations.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering required (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering preferred).
3+ years of experience in Quality Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering within an automotive or high-volume manufacturing environment, including internship or co-op experience.
Experience supporting high-volume production environments, including development and implementation of Control Plans, PFMEA, and process controls.
Knowledge of quality methodologies and problem-solving tools, including Minitab, Six Sigma, and 8D problem-solving methods.
Experience using Microsoft Office and Minitab for data analysis and reporting.
Knowledge of electrochemistry and lithium-ion battery cell materials (e.g., cathode, anode, separator) preferred.
Experience performing cell validation testing, including performance, safety, and reliability testing.

Skills:
Knowledge of APQP, inspection equipment and techniques, and root cause failure analysis methodologies.
Familiarity with capability studies, statistical analysis, and manufacturing process evaluation.
Understanding of PFMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, 8D/5-Why problem solving, and fault tree analysis (FTA).
Knowledge of SOPs, Control Plans, CTQs, and parameters used for conducting process audits.
Strong data analysis and reporting capabilities, including the ability to prepare technical reports and summarize quality findings.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across production, engineering, and quality teams.
Demonstrated teamwork and effectiveness in achieving organizational goals.
