Job description


Position Summary
The Warehouse Yard Spotter is responsible for safely and efficiently moving trailers and containers throughout the distribution center yard and positioning equipment at designated dock doors. This role conducts trailer inventory audits, performs routine inspections, monitors refrigeration unit settings, identifies equipment damage, and reports maintenance needs to support safe and compliant warehouse operations.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities Include:
  • Conduct pre-trip inspections of yard equipment to identify damage, safety concerns, or maintenance needs and report findings appropriately.
  • Safely operate a yard tractor to move empty and loaded trailers throughout the distribution center yard.
  • Follow radio or electronic dispatch instructions to position designated trailers at assigned dock doors.
  • Conduct daily trailer and container inventories, documenting locations, status (empty or loaded), refrigeration settings, and equipment movement to ensure accurate yard management.
  • Report damaged trailers, containers, or equipment promptly to support safe operations.
  • Complete required operational, inspection, and equipment damage reports accurately and timely.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of yard equipment and work areas.
  • Maintain a professional and cooperative working relationship with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Perform other yard-related duties as assigned.

Secondary Responsibilities Include:
  • Work in a team-oriented environment by picking, preparing, and palletizing finished goods for shipment - working overtime as needed to accomplish the daily/weekly shipping goals.
  • Operate forklift or other equipment as required in the movement of material within the distribution center. Complete a daily vehicle inspection report prior to operating any equipment. Responsible for the proper charging of the vehicles after use. Performing light maintenance duties as required (i.e. watering battery properly).
  • Required to complete warehouse tasks using a handheld RF scanner (picking, replenishing, and putting away items). This includes ensuring precise data entry, verifying product details, and recording serial numbers to maintain inventory integrity.
  • Attention to detail and adherence to company procedures are essential to prevent errors and ensure accurate order fulfillment.
  • Follows and understands all company and job-specific procedures.
  • Meets all facility standards applied within select departments.
  • Will pick and stack products according to procedure and special instructions.
  • Cross-checking is needed to 100% accuracy.
  • Pick, check, over pack, consolidate, and process parcel cases as necessary.
  • Follow all safety instructions to properly load / unload trailers according to procedure.
  • Verify accuracy of shipments received, determine locations for products, and put product into available locations.
  • Work independently and proactively. Clearly communicate with management and department personnel on key issues regarding returns processing.
  • Adhere to all good manufacturing practices, Food and Drug guidelines and Drug Enforcement Laws.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties.
  • Work in teams as designated. (i.e. Safety, 5S, Lean, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
  • Minimum + years warehousing experience, and previous yard spotting experience.
  • Ability to perform basic math calculations
  • Must have good verbal and written skills
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Oracle experience preferred
  • Current forklift certification is required; stand-up forklift preferred
  • Motorized (electric) pallet jack certification is a plus
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Outlook preferred

Physical Requirements and Work Environment
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear
  • Must be able to work safely around heavy equipment in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time
