Job description

Position Summary: Under direct supervision and working within a cage or secured area, a Controlled Substance Material Handler in warehouse operations is responsible for performing a variety of tasks that support the processing of returned/recalled items on behalf of a retailer or manufacturer. The shipment received for processing may contain both controlled substance items and non-controlled items. The Controlled Substance Material Handler position requires high attention to detail and ability to read, understand and follow standard operating procedures specific to this position.


Primary Accountabilities:

  • Lift and move boxes to and/or from the scanning lines

  • Open boxes (or other containers) of returned/recalled items with a box cutter may contain both controlled substance items and non-controlled items

  • Visually match or identify the Return Authorization (RA) information on the outside of the container to the paperwork and specific items within the container to verify that it matches

  • Follow instructions for handling any discrepancies noted

  • Prepare paperwork for scanning by smoothing folds and removing staples; enter additional information to the system as prompted

  • Place items processed into a tote; prepare a placard with RA and tote barcode for scanning process

  • When scanning process is complete, add totes to a pallet, label the pallet for storage; move pallets to storage as directed

  • Stock empty totes at scanning lines and remove trash from scanning area as directed

  • Always maintain a clean and orderly workstation and area

  • If forklift certified, operate forklift for movement of order/products on the processing floor, if assigned

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Complies with all policies and standards

Required Qualifications:

  • High School (or its equivalent) or minimum of two year's work experience in a warehouse or production job; or any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to complete the responsibilities of this position required

  • Able to follow standard operation and safety procedures

  • Able to work in an environment that is not climate controlled

  • Able to push a cart or hand truck up to 100 yards; able to use a pallet jack

  • Able to grasp and use box cutters and seal zip lock bags

  • Able to work under time pressure and meet production goals; able to work more than 8 hours per day (over-time) as needed

  • Able to assist with other operations within the warehouse, as needed

  • Able to handle hazardous waste materials with appropriate safety measures

$18.74

Incremental pay increase are provided at 3 months and 12 months of employment. This is a non-exempt, hourly role eligible for overtime in accordance with federal and state laws.

In addition to base hourly pay, eligible employees in this role may receive:

  • Safety bonuses based on meeting defined performance and compliance requirements.

  • Shift differentials, where applicable(e.g. for evening or late shifts)
