Job description

Overview

Herzog Contracting Corp. is currently seeking Field Engineers in Gastonia, NC to join our team on the NCDOT I-85 Railroad Bridges Job. Herzog and joint venture partner, Flatiron Dragados, will be building the civil and structural infrastructure for 3 new railroad bridges, 2 new roadway bridges, and 2 temporary railroad bridges, all over Interstate I-85 for NCDOT to allow for future highway widening.

Duties and Responsibilities:

*This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position.

  • Key duties include schedule input; submittals and RFI’s; preparing field work packages; compiling and redlining as-built data; perform procurement quantity takeoffs and verifying installation quantities; field safety and quality inspections.
  • Write and submit daily reports in construction management software.
  • Compile necessary information for all submittals and coordinate with Document Control to ensure proper documentation.
  • Assist Superintendent with coordination of material deliveries.
  • Subcontractor management.
  • Work closely with document control and field personnel to ensure they have latest drawings and installation documents.
  • Ensure that work is correctly cost coded and all extra work is coded to separate cost codes as assigned by the Project Engineer or other.
  • Attend necessary briefings, job specific trainings, and safety meetings and maintain annual requirements as necessary.
  • Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
  • Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Degree in Civil, Construction Management, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent work experience in a construction related position preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
  • Construction management course work or internship experience preferred.
  • Two years or more experience on heavy civil construction projects preferred.
  • Production and Cost Tracking experience a plus.
  • Must be flexible in working in both office and field environment as needed.
  • Must have excellent communication, organization, and teamwork skills.
  • Must be highly motivated.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

  • Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
  • Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
  • Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.

Physical Requirements:

The physical demands described below must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions of this role. This is a non-exhaustive overview of the physical requirements of this job.

  • Perform light work, occasionally exerting up to 20 pounds of force.
  • Able to walk on uneven surfaces.
  • Occasionally ascend/descend step ladders and/or stairs.
  • Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
  • Regularly kneel, bend, and squat.
  • Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
  • Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
  • Able to work in conditions with loud noise; work on/around heavy/moving machinery.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, and sleet).
