Job description


Assists in the design and development of mechanical systems including components, enclosures, and packaging, aligning with standards for reliability, performance, and manufacturability. Utilizes advanced computer aided design (CAD) tools to support the development of 3D models and designs. Begins to conduct structural analyses and identify failure points. Executes testing and reliability assessments as instructed, ensuring designs meet functional and performance goals while identifying areas for improvement. Documents essential details about processes and materials, ensuring alignment with project timelines and quality standards.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Design and Development:
-Assists in the design and development of electronic parts, components, board layout and board planning, mechanical systems, equipment, and packaging, aligning with standards for reliability, performance, and manufacturability.
-Utilizes advanced computer assisted design (CAD) tools (e.g., ProE, SolidWorks) to support development of 3D models and mechanical designs.
Structural and Reliability Analysis:
-Begins to conduct first order stress analysis, strain analysis, and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to evaluate the mechanical strength and reliability of materials and components, raising challenges to team.
-Addresses identified potential points of failure as instructed to refine designs and improve reliability.
Manufacturing and Production Support:
-Adheres to project timelines throughout the design development process and may work with team to optimize manufacturing processes.
Product Testing and Quality Assurance:
-Executes tests as instructed for prototypes, ensuring designs meet functional and performance goals while identifying areas for improvement.
-Collects test data for analyses to detect bugs, defects, and failure trends.
Research and Innovation:
-Researches next-generation technologies to support optimization of data center and cloud application products.
Collaboration with Cross-functional Teams:
-Incorporates feedback from suppliers and internal stakeholders to support the development of high-quality components, ensuring they meet performance and cost goals.
Project Management:
-Documents essential details about processes and materials, providing clear communication to stakeholders and ensuring alignment with project objectives and schedule.
Additional Responsibilities (as needed)
Thermal Management:
-Assists with thermal analysis and design using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) tools like FloTHERM or Icepak.
-Executes airflow measurements, environmental testing, and thermal validation tests for products as instructed, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards (e.g., ASHRAE Data Center Standards).
Environmental Test Engineering:
-Assists in ensuring that mechanical product designs align with relevant global regulatory and industry standards by supporting the integration of standards requirements into design.
-Conducts basic environmental testing, working closely with internal teams and external labs to ensure products meet established standards.
-Works with design engineers and program managers to understand test results and assists in debug and validation of design fixes.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • 0-2 years of hands-on mechanical design experience through full-time roles, internships, co-ops, academic projects, or related high-tech electro-mechanical work.
  • CAD experience with tools such as Creo/ProEngineer, SolidWorks, NX, or similar mechanical design platforms.
  • Foundational experience designing or supporting sheet metal, machined, plastic, die-cast, and fastened mechanical components and assemblies.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing processes such as stamping, bending, machining, injection molding, die casting, finishing, assembly, and inspection.
  • Familiarity with tolerance analysis, GD&T, DFM/DFA, mechanical drawings, BOM creation, design documentation, and engineering change processes.
  • Ability to support prototype builds, mechanical validation, failure analysis, and production readiness activities.
  • Ability to work effectively with cross-functional engineering teams, manufacturing partners, suppliers, and global stakeholders.
  • Ability to evaluate tradeoffs across mechanical design, thermal performance, manufacturability, serviceability, and cost with guidance from senior engineers.
  • Strong problem-solving, ownership, communication, documentation, and schedule-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with cloud infrastructure, hyperscale data center hardware, enterprise servers, storage systems, networking systems, or rack-level platforms.
  • Familiarity with thermal and structural analysis workflows or tools such as FloTHERM, Icepak, ANSYS, or similar simulation environments.
  • Exposure to mechanical validation processes such as environmental testing, vibration testing, shock testing, thermal testing, and characterization.
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC, safety, regulatory, reliability, serviceability, and data center environmental requirements.
  • Prior exposure to global ODM/JDM partners, external manufacturers, tooling vendors, or supply chain organizations is a plus.
  • Knowledge of high-power systems, airflow optimization, liquid-cooling interfaces, rack integration, cable routing, and service-access constraints.
  • Familiarity with PLM/PDM systems and formal release processes for hardware products.
Core Technical Skills
  • Mechanical design support: Enclosures, chassis, rack hardware, covers, brackets, trays, cable-management features, and electro-mechanical assemblies.
  • Manufacturing readiness: DFM/DFA support, tooling feedback, supplier reviews, cost awareness, quality improvement, and release-to-production support.
  • Validation and analysis: Tolerance stack-ups, fit/function checks, prototype validation, environmental testing, vibration testing, thermal characterization, and RCCA support.
  • Cross-functional execution: Clear collaboration with electrical, thermal, systems, validation, operations, supply chain, and manufacturing teams.
  • Documentation discipline: CAD models, drawings, BOM inputs, ECO support, specifications, assembly procedures, test findings, and production release records.

US: Hiring Range in USD from: $74,100 to $148,300 per annum. May be eligible for bonus and equity.

Candidates are typically placed into the range based on the preceding factors as well as internal peer equity.

8. Paid time off: Flexible Vacation is provided to all eligible employees assigned to a salaried (non-overtime eligible) position.
