Job description

Role: Head of Electronics Engineering
Location: San Diego, CA (in-office)
Salary: $170,000 - $230,000 / yr + stock options, 401k matching, and other benefits
Role Overview:
Seasats designs and deploys autonomous surface vessels that operate at sea for months at a time. As we scale vessel production and push our electronics systems further, we're hiring a Head of Electronics Engineering to manage and grow the electronics engineering team, owning the successful delivery of all electronics programs at Seasats.
The Head of Electronics Engineering ensures the electronics team executes on the company's strategy, meets program priorities, and delivers reliable, manufacturable electronics systems on aggressive timelines. You'll manage and mentor the team, align priorities, and drive execution. While your primary focus will be leadership, coordination, and accountability, you'll also need strong technical expertise and the ability to take on design and execution -- this is a hands-on role!
Role Details:
You'll report to the CTO, work closely with electronics engineers and other department heads, and collaborate across the organization. Responsibilities include:
  • Directly managing the electronics engineering team, including goal-setting, performance management, hiring, onboarding, and career development
  • Owning delivery and outcomes for all electronics programs, including schedules, scope, and cross-team coordination
  • Setting technical direction and engineering standards in partnership with senior engineers
  • Prioritizing work across multiple concurrent projects and ensuring resources are aligned with company goals
  • Leading design reviews and readiness reviews to ensure quality, reliability, and manufacturability expectations are met
  • Identifying technical, schedule, and organizational risks early and driving mitigation plans
  • Partnering with production and QA to ensure smooth transitions from development to manufacturing
  • Interacting with vendors and guiding supplier and component selection
  • Establishing and improving processes for documentation, testing, production handoff, and post-deployment support
  • Communicating progress, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to company leadership

About You:
You're an experienced engineering manager, someone who can take an ambitious goal, develop a plan, and mobilize a team to make it a reality. You bring:
  • A background in electrical or electronics engineering, with hands-on experience designing and building
  • 3+ years of experience managing and developing engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career growth
  • A track record of leading electronics teams through complex hardware programs and delivering results on real timelines
  • The ability to set direction, establish priorities, and align team execution with company goals
  • Strong engineering judgment and the confidence to guide technical decisions
  • Experience taking electronics systems from early development through production and sustained deployment
  • Clear and direct communication skills, including the ability to surface risks early and keep leadership aligned
  • Comfort operating in a fast-moving, in-office, hardware-focused environment where clarity and follow-through matter
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance

About Seasats:
At Seasats, we're passionate about delivering maritime robotics solutions to redefine the maritime industry. Our primary products are autonomous surface vehicles (ASVs), designed to carry sensors at sea for months at a time. Our ASVs provide persistent monitoring and data acquisition to defense, scientific, and commercial customers, and have autonomously crossed both the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. After thousands of years in which the only way to gather information from the ocean was to put people on a boat, these uncrewed vessels are transforming how humanity monitors and interacts with the ocean. Here, you'll find the space and opportunity to do your life's best work.
Along with your salary, you'll receive perks including:
  • Competitive insurance (including a 99% employer-covered Gold HMO plan or other options)
  • 401k matching up to 4% of salary
  • Four free lunches per week
  • An employee activity fund
  • A pet-friendly office
  • Unlimited/Flex PTO

Hiring Notes:
When applying, you'll be asked to provide a resume and answer a few screening questions.
Please note that we are currently unable to sponsor employment visas, so candidates must be independently authorized to work in the United States.
We appreciate diverse perspectives and life experiences, and we're committed to building a team that reflects a wide range of backgrounds.
