Summary
Balfour Beatty is seeking a VDC Engineer to join our Carolinas team, based out of Raleigh. This role is ideal for a technically skilled, detail-oriented professional with hands-on experience in BIM modeling and coordination who is looking to grow their career within a collaborative, project-driven environment.
This is a hands-on technical role, emphasizing modeling, coordination, and digital workflows. The role offers exposure to complex projects, evolving technologies, and opportunities for professional growth within Balfour Beatty's digital delivery practice.
Essential Functions
  • Model Coordination: Support and facilitate multi-trade coordination and clash detection using Navisworks and Revit; assist with coordination meetings and model issue tracking.
  • VDC & BIM Support: Contribute to BIM execution planning, model logistics, and data management in alignment with company VDC standards and workflows (including R5 process).
  • Model Development: Create, update, and maintain architectural, structural, and MEP models at appropriate Levels of Development (LOD) through design and construction phases.
  • MEP & Trade Integration: Coordinate building systems with trade partners to identify and resolve conflicts and support constructability reviews.
  • Technology & Platform Support: Provide model-based support for documentation, coordination, and field use; assist teams with Procore and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) workflows.
  • Quality & Accuracy: Perform model checks to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with construction documents and project standards.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Work collaboratively with project teams, designers, and subcontractors to support alignment, efficiency, and best practices in digital delivery.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ of experience in VDC/BIM modeling and coordination within the construction industry.
  • Proficiency with Revit and Navisworks.
  • Working knowledge of Procore, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and BIM 360 / ACC.
  • Experience supporting MEP coordination and understanding LOD requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents, specifications, and shop drawings.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.

Preferred Experience
  • Experience coordinating large, complex, or multi-phase projects with multiple trades and stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or independently manage multi-trade coordination efforts, including facilitating coordination or clash resolution discussions.
  • Experience contributing to or helping develop BIM execution plans, VDC standards, or project-specific workflows.
  • Exposure to preconstruction or design-assist modeling, including early coordination, constructability reviews, or model-based problem-solving.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior VDC/BIM staff, interns, or project team members.
  • Advanced Revit capabilities, such as family creation, content management, or model optimization.
  • Familiarity with lean construction principles, model-based coordination strategies, or digital delivery best practices.
  • Interest in expanding technical leadership, coordination ownership, or process improvement responsibilities over time.
