Job description

The Aerospace Intern supports engineering, technical, and programmatic activities performed under the COSMOS contract at NASA's Johnson Space Center. This temporary internship provides college students with hands-on experience in aerospace operations, engineering processes, research, analysis, and project support within a dynamic spaceflight environment. Interns work under the guidance of experienced engineers, scientists, and technical professionals while contributing to projects that support NASA missions and objectives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist engineering and technical teams with project-related assignments.
  • Support the collection, analysis, and documentation of technical data.
  • Participate in design reviews, team meetings, and project discussions.
  • Conduct research and prepare technical reports, presentations, and supporting documentation.
  • Assist with systems engineering, testing, modeling, simulation, or operational activities as assigned.
  • Utilize industry-standard software tools to perform analyses and document findings.
  • Support configuration management and document control processes.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to achieve project objectives.
  • Adhere to NASA, customer, and company safety, security, and quality requirements.
  • Complete assigned tasks within established schedules and performance expectations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of at least40 credit hoursat an accredited college or university.
  • Currently pursuing an Associate's, Bachelor's, or advanced degree.
  • Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) for the duration of the internship.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuing a degree inAerospace Engineeringor a closely related field, such as Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, or a similar STEM discipline.
  • Interest in human spaceflight, aerospace systems, robotics, mission operations, or related technical disciplines.
  • Experience with engineering coursework, laboratory projects, design projects, or research activities.
  • Familiarity with engineering software, modeling tools, programming languages, or data analysis techniques.
